Water Spot Removal Methods Compared

Wheel acid contains hydrofluoric acid, and is very hazardous to your health.
Yes painless burns at first, then it binds to nerve endings, and depletes calcium and magnesium from your body which can cause heart issues. But that is at concentrations above 20%, below that its a weak acid. I would just avoid it in general, use CLR to get rid of water stains. Youtube is not always a relible souce for infrmation. I believe that the acidic wheel cleaners specifically state not to get on painted surfaces. My philosophy is to start with the mildest agent to remove stains and work my way up to more agressive methods.

i used Griots machine polish 2 followed by collinite 915 for a super job on my preowned 2011 Fronty, BLACK of course!!

i think most articles say to mix vinegar with distilled water...what about just using distilled vinegar 5% straight up? I bought this car used but would never buy black and the sprinklers are killing me. Last time I polished with meguiars by hand and it cleaned up most of it but took a decent amount of effort. I'm too pissed to do that again.

I think it depends on how quickly you can treat the spots. The longer they're on there the more aggressive approach will be needed. Time was never mentioned in video.

Wheels are clear coated surfaces.
That's fine if you want to use acid wheel cleaner on YOUR car's refinish, but most wheel manfacturers recommend NOT using acidic wheel cleaners because the acids attact the clear coat over time, the anodization if there is any, etc. Im not going to use a strong acid or alkaline chemical on my paint based on a Youtube test. Rememer Youtube also had the TidePod challenge so...

Critic, last year you talked about using HF on your house windows. Did that all work out OK and have you grown extra fingers or anything since? Are you going to try it on your car paint?

I've used lots of Bleche Wite over the years on wheels. They do tend to get dull and I assume that is why. It just works so well though. I love seeing the grime drip off.

WATER 7732-18-5 60 - 100
SODIUM ALKYL BENZENE SULFONIC ACID 68081-81-2 1 - 5
2-BUTOXYETHANOL 111-76-2 1 - 5
SODIUM METASILICATE 6834-92-0 1 - 5

Concentrated HF will atrack and etch glass, its used specifically to etch glass in many industries. HF at higher concentrations is wicked stuff and will destroy alot of things, it takes very small amounts on the human body to seriously and permanently injure you or kill you. Not only does it burn you but it affects many processes in the human body. Look it up, learn about it, an avoid it.

Of course, there is a highly likelihood of damage if wheel acid is used incorrectly. But wheel acid is commonly used in the detailing industry without issues by trained individuals.

Zero issues.

A solution of 1 part water and 1 part white vinegar works wonderfully on water spots if they haven’t been baked into the paint for a long period of time.

Don’t use straight vinegar, it’s way less effective.
