As expected, wheel acid won.
Everyone should have a gal in their arsenal IMO; it is a very cost-effective and versatile product when used responsibly.
Yes painless burns at first, then it binds to nerve endings, and depletes calcium and magnesium from your body which can cause heart issues. But that is at concentrations above 20%, below that its a weak acid. I would just avoid it in general, use CLR to get rid of water stains. Youtube is not always a relible souce for infrmation. I believe that the acidic wheel cleaners specifically state not to get on painted surfaces. My philosophy is to start with the mildest agent to remove stains and work my way up to more agressive methods.Wheel acid contains hydrofluoric acid, and is very hazardous to your health.
Wheels are clear coated surfaces.I believe that the acidic wheel cleaners specifically state not to get on painted surfaces.
That's fine if you want to use acid wheel cleaner on YOUR car's refinish, but most wheel manfacturers recommend NOT using acidic wheel cleaners because the acids attact the clear coat over time, the anodization if there is any, etc. Im not going to use a strong acid or alkaline chemical on my paint based on a Youtube test. Rememer Youtube also had the TidePod challenge so...Wheels are clear coated surfaces.
Concentrated HF will atrack and etch glass, its used specifically to etch glass in many industries. HF at higher concentrations is wicked stuff and will destroy alot of things, it takes very small amounts on the human body to seriously and permanently injure you or kill you. Not only does it burn you but it affects many processes in the human body. Look it up, learn about it, an avoid it.One of our regulars who details professionally will come along and offer an opinion hopefully.
Critic, last year you talked about using HF on your house windows. Did that all work out OK and have you grown extra fingers or anything since? Are you going to try it on your car paint?
Of course, there is a highly likelihood of damage if wheel acid is used incorrectly. But wheel acid is commonly used in the detailing industry without issues by trained individuals. That's fine if you want to use acid wheel cleaner on YOUR car's refinish, but most wheel manfacturers recommend NOT using acidic wheel cleaners because the acids attact the clear coat over time
Zero issues.Critic, last year you talked about using HF on your house windows. Did that all work out OK and have you grown extra fingers or anything since? Are you going to try it on your car paint?
