It was a free oil change per the warranty - but I belive still a simple mistake could have been costly if I was not cleaning around the engine area. It must have been about a week of driving without the cap.

Sorry to hear about that. But don't you just love the attitude the dealership gives you when they are in the wrong. Salesman are eager to sell the car but majority of the service department couldn't give a rats a$$ about servicing it correctly. Regardless tell them to change the oil and make sure you file a case with MB. And in case they ask you "DON'T give them 5 stars" when you get called about the quality of your service visit.
