My frigidaire washer has been really moving and vibrating on the spin cycle. It has 2 shocks on the bottom of the drum, i can get a pair for around $20.
It also has 2 suspension springs that hang the drum from the top. these springs are $45 each.

I know the lower shocks are probably the culprit. If the upper springs are not broken, are they ok? Or are they usually replaced due to stretch?

If i need to replace the uppers as well, then i'm not sure i want to put $110 or so into a 12 yr old washer.

Thoughts?

I would buy a new washer. That said I spent [like a caboose] $60.00 on a 10 year old dryer to replace the belt the rear drum seal and the 2 drum rollers. A new basic electric dry can be found for About $350.00.

Personally, I wouldn't put that kind of money into a 12 year old washer. I'd probably try the shocks and if that didn't do it, look into a replacement washer.

I had a Maytag that was vibrating badly where it was banging the sides. I spent some money to repair it (I think $50) - all new springs and it had a plastic seat to it as well. Lasted about 6 weeks if that long and started again. Bought a new washer for about $350 or so when Home Depot had a good sale. Sometimes it just not worth it. A few weeks later the matching dryer had an issue and I got rid of that as well; I had already replaced the thermal sensor in it about a year before and it never really heated properly (too hot).

I just replaced the 4 suspension rubber tube things that keep the drum from spinning out of control, on my GE washer. It's only about 6 or 7 years old. It cost me $55.90 including a new lid switch. The washer works as good as it did when new. It was worth spending that small amount on fixing it to me. If you need a couple of new springs, take them to Home Depot and match them up to what they sell. A bit shorter ones will work better then longer ones,as they tend to stretch when used.,,,

Have you checked the prices at AppliancePartsPros.com ? I've got parts from them before and they've been real good people to deal with. They have helpful instructional videos too.

At $110 that would be a nice down payment on a Speed Queen. The only reason I bring it up is once you by one of those, it's over for a pretty good while. It's approaching 6 mos with our new SQ and I still can't get over how well it performs. My Korean drier remains but if it so much as hiccups, right back to KG appliance for an SQ drier.
I'm tired of messing around with brand new junk.

That's funny as heck. That Korean dryer must be under alotta mental stress to maintain its employment status.

Update, I did take a risk and ordered the springs, the shocks alone did not stop the shaking. The springs did. High speed spin is very quiet, we did not even realize the washer had finished last night. You could not tell the old springs were bad, they did not look stretched. Its just the two of us now, as my son does not live here. So our laundry volume is much less. The washer runs well so i figured if it gets me another year or so, it gets me through the kitchen remodel.

This washer is pretty easy to work on.
