Older cars had lacquer paint and chrome, they can take Dawn wash with a cup of kerosene. Finish it with Pledge and you end up with a nice finish.

Things have changed with most cars having black trim, I wouldn't regularly use Dawn on an Avalalanche or a Honda Element. I see many of these type of cars/trucks with dried looking trim, hurts to see a Rubicon this way.

When I was young my father cleaned up my 65 chevy with Turtle wax rubbing compound and a terry cloth, car looked great afterwards. Can I still do the same with my 2012 G37?

I wouldn't. I'd hope a 2012 G37 doesn't need rubbing compound.

I wouldn't since it will leave a bunch of smaller scratches behind. Try some Meguiars Ultimate Compound. Only around $10 and works great! Lots of youtube videos on it.

Have not used anything on my vehicles since 2000 other than Zip Wash by Turtle Wax. Don't know if it has any wax, but it sure shines good when your done and dry it off with a chamois. I keep some NuFinish around for bird poop spots .

Washed the truck last Thursday, drove it to work in the rain Saturday. Was still raining when I got there. After work it looked like it had not even rained. It must have some sort of water repellent in it.

Dishwash soap will totally strip off the wax. Definitely rewax it. But hey,she meant well :^) Hope you told her she did an awesome job and how great the car looked!
