I just had my ATF/filter changed at the local mechanic. This time around I had him put in Castrol DexVI, but I realized only half the fluid gets changed that way. Now I have 1/2 maxlife dexIII and 1/2 castrol DexVI. For what I paid to get the DexVI was it even worth it for only 1/2 the overall fluid? I'm thinking I should just stuck with maxlife for alot less money per quart.

Make sure that you go again to do the same thing, I think 3x is the recommended treatment, that is, if you're not going to do a flush job.

What about syphoning out the ATF instead of dropping the pan? I am limited to what I can do myslef right now, and Im not going to pay him again (no money).

My owners manual says 5 quarts are necessary for a drain and refill, but I just checked out autozones website and according to them they transmission capacity is 2 3/5 quarts. So either they are way off or he got out more than just what was in the pan?? I dunno

If you have a fluid extractor, you might be able to siphon the transmission. Not all dipstick tubes allow the siphoning tubes to reach the bottom of the pan.

Even though you're only half DexVI, you'll benefit.

Next time you go to the mechanic, have them install a drainplug kit.

After the initial pan drop, how many miles should I wait to ensure the ATF becomes homogeneous before dropping the pan or siphoning the fluid?
