Want to scan to .pdf Brother Scanner/Printer/FAX

I have two Brother 3 in 1's units that I scored for a song in 2012 and 2013 Model MFC-J615W. These little workhorses have been great printers, FAX machines, and for the most scanners. Problem is they only scan as .jpg*. Is there any software or trick to scan directly to .pdf?


*Scanning to jpg and then converting does work to some extent, but the files are huge even with terrible resolution. It's slow and the yield is not great.

open the brother software and under settings change what it scans to.

There is a free program "Bullzip" that will print anything to a pdf.

My Brother J430W lets me scan direct to a PDF. Under the scan options, there is "Scan to Image" which is the JPG, but further down the list is "Scan to File"...that saves it as a PDF.

BROTHER manufactures dependable quality all in one's. They are often overlooked. My current is an MFC-J875DW which has been flawless for 6 months now and has all the connectivity you can ask 4.

Totally agree with you there. That's why I bought a second one.

Problem has been solved, user never updated original driver software. Funny thing at the time, even the manual said you couldn't scan to .pdf. I was all bummed at the time and didn't go deeper later to find they had updated.

Uh, that's not the problem I had. I could always pdf any item I already have an e-file for.

Oh, I never even installed software for mine. I was referring to the little screen on the front of the printer. That's interesting you can change file types though with the software. I'll have to check that out.

I suppose OP wants optical character recognition somewhere so his PDFs have selectable words as well as clearer type and formatting. A pdf of a jpg image is just a photocopy and less useful.
