Walter P Chrysler's great grandson "letter to the people, saving Chrysler, a call to action" is Chrysler at risk of going under?

Mercedes pillaged and destroyed Chrysler starting with the "merger of equals" in 1998 and completely ran what was a great company into the ground. Mercedes needed access to all the cash Chrysler had on hand and Chrysler was fighting off a hostile takeover from Kerkorian...set the stage for this disaster of a deal.

Sorry Mr. Rhodes... but sometimes, things just go away.

Mercury, Imperial, Pontiac, Saturn, Oldsmobile, Saab, Hudson, American Motors, Plymouth, Packard, Studebaker, Edsel, Delorean, Eagle, Geo, Rambler, DeSoto, LaSalle, Auburn, Duesenberg, Kaiser-Frazier....

Sounds more like a PR ploy to get Stellantis to sell off the Chrysler family of cars to a group of investors led by a Chrysler family member. I hope that it happens.

Jeeps have had tremendous price increases and are not selling. The Galdiator was a disaster from day. A solution to a problem that didn't exist. Nobody ever said I hope a Jeep and a pickup make a baby-it excels at nothing. The RAMs are not selling either. Can't blame the economy-GM and Ford till selling respectable amounts.
It will still be a disaster no matter who buys it-with the exception of VW.

Even though my son has a Jeep renegade, it wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if Chrysler went kaput. Dodge/Ram and Jeep would probably service in one form or another.

I have to agree. I bought a 2001 Dodge Dakota. My thinking was Daimler Benz now owns Chrysler and it has to be a good product. It was the biggest piece of junk that I’ve ever owned.

Jeep. Iconic brand that saved American Motors. Then saved Chrysler. I guess Stellantis is just too much for even Jeep to save.

Truthfully we likely have too many auto brands. I like choice, but you need economies of scale to make things cheap.

There was a company that specifically made jeep trucks before they had the gladiator. Not sure how many they sold but the demand was there.

I really don't ever remember Chrysler specifically being much of a name. Maybe the last popular Chrysler was the K-car, or maybe the original Chrysler minivan? Dodge, Jeep, Ram - yes. Chrysler, not really.

I agree, it’s well documented that Daimler needed cash, and Chrysler had it at that time.
Daimler sucked Chrysler dry, and stopped almost all new product development. Cerebus then bought what was left and sucked the marrow out of Chrysler’s bones.
Fiat introduced a lot of new product, but they could not make a plan and stick with it. ( See Chrysler 200, new platform, killed after 2 years) Dodge dart debuted with the wrong drivetrain, and when they fixed that, they killed the Dart also.
Put money only into trucks ( for the most part) Credit to Sergio that he gave some budget to the Viper team.
Once he passed, there was little hop left for Chrysler.
Stellantis only ever wanted Jeep and Ram.
Dodge and Chrysler are walking dead brands.
That stinks because ChryCo was once know for engineering.

There is always a demand for something that nobody else has. But when they start to roll off an assembly line it kind of dilutes that "special feeling".

I have always had good service from my dodge products. I guess I must be the exception. I have had Coronets, Plymouth furys, Dodge spirits plymouth breeze, 3 dodge trucks and 2 vans b350 and 3 Chrysler Town and Countrys. All have been great. I still have a Roadtrek camper and an 07 Ram 1500. I have vw's and a Mazda and a Yukon. I have tried other brands and I keep going back to Mopar.

The holdovers from the Mercedes era on my kids Compass are just annoying.

#1 wheel bolts. Just stop it, no one like them, they're a pain.
#2 plastic that just falls apart
#3 two batteries for your ASS system? Really?

To be fair, it does run well although it uses oil so no complaints there, but I'm still not a fan of the thing.

I think the FCA leadership made a big mistake in killing the 5th-gen Dodge Grand Caravan, and replacing it with the much pricier Chrysler Pacifica. The DGC tooling and design had long ago been amortized, so they could sell them at a very competitive price and still make money. They are still very common here, whereas it's a novelty to see a Pacifica.

Think all the brands are on their way out there…you could pick the bones of the best (Wrangler, Ram truck) and just get rid of everything else. I assume stuff gets sold to the Chinese too- which they will milk until it’s dead.
