$44 for 3 gallons and says:

  • Industry Standards: Meets or exceeds API CK-4, CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, CI-4, CH-4, SN; ACEA E11; JASO DH-2, MA, MA2 requirements.
  • OEM Specifications: Complies with Caterpillar ECF-2, ECF-3; Cummins CES 20086, 81; Detroit DFS 93K222, 93K218; and other OEM specifications.
Few questions come to mind here. Does being SN mean it's semi-synthetic? If using on a 250k mile 6.0ls does conventional/synthetic even matter at this point? When I first bought the truck it had 224k and was running rough with low power but after several engine flushes and a bunch of other things, including a 91 octane tune, it probably outruns it's original self. People here seemed to really be pumping a 15w40 for it and I'd been running a 5w30 so thought I'd give this a try. Everything in 15w40 near me is HDEO, maybe that's the case for everywhere.

  • With millions of miles of real world testing, Shell Rotella® T4 Triple Protection 15W-40 uses a proprietary, synthetic blend formula exclusive to Shell.
SN rating for gasoline engines is outdated now, obviously, but if you don't need LSPI protection, it may be fine for your gas vehicle.

Just go get a 5w40? There's nowhere at all in Texas where 15w40 versus 5w40 is going to make a big difference.
It has LiquiMoly Molygen 5w40 in it now but since it was $44 for 3 gal i grabbed 15w40 which many recommended.

You don't really need an overpriced import. Get Mobil 5w40 or Mobil 1 0w40 and enjoy life. Or the Castrol / Castrol Edge. Or Pennzoil / Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Or Walmart house brand. Or whatever you get off the shelf to suit your budget.

5W40 in Texas, in a 6.0L, is perfectly fine. Proven many times over.

If anything, Ford stated that a 15W40 was only recommended down to 20 degrees (injector stiction).

I would use T6 5W-40 over T4 15W-40. Even if the base oil viscosity is lower (likely similar), the synthetic base oils are superior in the heat as well, even with something as F tier as Rotella. If cost is a concern, Super Tech synthetic 5W-40 is cheaper than T6 and a better oil all around.

You can ignore the SN rating. Much of the standards for API S-series only applies to 30 grade oils and below so it's a moot point to include it. The ~$5,500 for the license to slap it on there is a cheap marketing tool. It doesn't actually meet the standards for SN which is why the 10W-30, which has to actually pass the tests, doesn't carry it.

It was with FCPEuro credit. I used it a lot for my Yamaha outboards and the pickup this go around. Was doing some dove hunting at saw the T4 on the shelf. Normally this truck is just for 2k-3k miles a year but since I wasn't flying I spent 6 weeks helping a buddy on his farm which was pretty hard miles and and a lot of them.

SuperTech 5w-40? Are you sure they sell that grade.

Do they not make it anymore? I used to see their Euro 5W-40 on the shelves near me, but now that I scroll walmart's site, it's not there now. Well, my bad. Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40, Mobil 1 Euro 5W-40, either of those would be better.

Yes, I'm recommending A3/B4 Euro oils. They do everything CK-4 does and then some for about the same price. In fact, newer diesels are starting to spec A3/B4 and similar Euro spec oils as CK-4 standards aren't cutting it.

They never made a Super Tech 5w-40 HDEO & that's why I questioned it.

You're talking about light duty vs heavy duty standards. If OP has a 6.0L Power Stroke there have been no tests with a Euro oil for that application. Can you point to where that has been tested? OP's truck is far from "Newer diesels" & besides PC-12 is around the corner to address any required baseline for newer HDEO applications.

You have it, go ahead and use it. If you aren't using it as a work truck to haul heavy loads, any passenger car 5w40 should work fine. If it is a work truck, buy the cheapest HDEO that fits your vehicle's spec and use it, $ becomes a factor after all.

I have never seen a 15w-40 that was not diesel rated. If you want to use that specific number oil in your gasser it will be fine. If you burn a lot try Delvac 1300 or Delo since they have less phosphorus than T4.

I have a 6.0L LS (Chevy gasser). I'd asked what oil to run on it being high mileage and getting beat on and many were saying 15w40. I'm in Houston area so not really a temp issue.

I'd say it's a good choice for your truck. Heck, you could run 20w-50 down there if that didn't work. (y)

ram recommends 15W-40 at temp from 0 to 120 + degrees.. below 0 they like 5W-40 for 2018 and below year models diesel engines.
