Walmart Prescriptions??????????

Just for conversation.
A few weeks back I got pneumonia and the doc called in a few scripts.
I "think" I have been noticing a trend. Maybe not.
I got two antibiotics and both caused severe hives... Okay.
They were not new meds to me as I took them last year.
Other meds I have to take seem less effective like Synthroid etc.

What I am getting to is I'm wondering if Walmart scripts are not of good quality.
I get blood tests often but the side effects happen much too often and I'm wondering.
Anybody else have issues with Walmart prescription's? They are a mix of generic and non-generic.

I understand shop elsewhere but I'd like to get some other feedback.
Other than what I have to take, I take nothing else. Meds are something I like to avoid.

I always get these dumb ear infections. Been getting them since I was a little kid. They always give me a prescription for penicillin. I go to Walmart for it every time and get the generic. Works like a charm! Never a single problem. Maybe you developed a new allergy?

If you took antibiotics and got severe hives, you are allergic to it. Make sure you tell your GP. I doubt its related to brand.

Really?!!

They sell the same generics and make brand stuff that the other pharmacies sell. They are not selling substandard medicines.

Don't feel bad as I have severe hives as well right now. Happened right when my dad passed away last month. I fall asleep and about 2 hours later wake up as I'm itching myself all over. I'm trying different things for some relief. At least you know the source of your hives. How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

at least for now, the FDA makes it so you don't need to worry about this and drugs are tested and checked to make sure it works as claimed, is safe and is the same.
hot take but I'm going to throw it out there
in the near future with the new direction our country is headed, you might not be so sure anymore and it'll be up to you to watch for yourself in a less regulated, less nannied country.

Do you even know what you're asking? Walmart does not contract separately with the drug companies to produce substandard or diluted medications, or sell ones that were produced with poor quality control and are contaminated. That's a level of conspiracy that I've not seen here on Bitog before. Most people confine the conspiracy theories to Walmart selling weak Mobil 1 due to the brand labeling on the container.

No, they don't do that. Those drugs are the same as the ones you can get at Target, Walgreens, Sam's Club, Costco, CVS or your neighborhood independent pharmacist.

Sometimes you get some food allergy that you never figure out, some ingredient or somthing.

Benadryl should help, also add an H2 blocker like ranitidine,famotidine, or cimetidine. Adding an H2 blocker can help the hives.

If it gets severe seek medical evaluation incase you need prednisone.

you don't have to worry about this unless you just like to live in a state of fear and everyone is out to get you and things were great in the good old days.

None here, been using Walmart Rx for about 6 years for allergy and blood pressure medications

For my Lyme disease one of the antibiotics I was on for a while only Walmart had it or could get it. CVS or local pharmacies could not obtain it easily or at all. My wife is allergic to different antibiotics and breaks out in hives if she takes them. I'm lucky as I have no problems with antibiotics. If you take antibiotics for any length of time it's a good idea to take a probiotic. Don't take them together but a few hours apart. It helps with the intestinal discomfort caused by the antibiotic.

And by the way, not only do the drug companies test their own drugs for purity and efficacy, so do their competitors. I have a friend at a large drug company in Chicago who does this for a living.

Right. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to reconsider their thinking. They're probably also the same type that hear of someone not wearing their seat belt and being thrown clear in an accident, so they don't wear it. But 99% of the time, the seat belt will save your life, I choose to wear mine.

Use Occam's Razor, the simpler answer is usually the correct one. In this case, the simpler answer is that the OP had a bad reaction to the drug and may be allergic. Just look up the drug and it will list possible side effects. The more complex answer would be that Walmart had set up separate drug companies to make inferior drugs that no one knows about and that no one has tested their drugs to see how good they are even though drugs are heavily regulated at the state and federal level and you're the first one to discover this due to the reaction you got. It's a stretch, smh.

Funny you mention that about Benedryl. When I was a little kid,I suddenly started getting hives all over. They ran all these tests,cut out certain foods,tried all these different medicines,etc,and never figured it out. One day they stopped and never returned. Fast forward to when I was around 18. I started getting hives again. Back then there were no walk in clinics,so I went to Eckerd's (a pharmacy we had back then) and told the pharmacist what was going on. He said to buy some Benadryl and that'll fix me right up. This went on for about a week. It made it all go away,and almost 30 years later,it has never returned. The pharmacist had said it was probably some random freak food allergy.

My wife's grand niece has a PhD in pharmacology from a very good university and works for Walmart. Never heard her say anything derogatory about quality of Walmart drugs. Heard plenty about some of the characters who purchase drugs at Walmart. PLENTY.

Talk to the pharmacist or your doctor. For all we know you could be allergic to an inert ingredient in your pills and there might be a different supplier that would suit you better. The pharmacist works for you, the patient, as well as WM and has a legal and moral obligation to make you better.
