My wife and I will be doing a W*M shop this weekend. I'll look/see!

K&N was over-hyped and over-priced when it was made in the USA by Champion. Now that it's made in Korea by an unknown company and the quality has dropped (but the price hasn't) I don't see this as a positive thing.

Its here also. I seen a filter of theirs for $16. Ironically it was right beside the fram ultras.

Mississippi also, Pass Christian

Yes; I noticed this in two Houston WMs in the past two weeks. K&N has a fair amount of shelf space and it seems they are stealing it from Purolator (not that means or suggests anything).

Ironically, my bride and I were in a Walmart in a town just north of us yesterday that we had never been in before. Of course once we inside I told her I'll see you later, "I'm heading to the auto section". I walked down the aisle and the first thing I saw were K&N filters, both oil and air. First time I'd ever seen them in a Walmart.

This is my opinion, take it at face value. Most new, or recently made, cars already make fairly high horsepower for their displacement. Wringing more out of them will generally require more than just air filters and exhaust systems. A K&N air filter is a cheap psychological boost for the butt dyno.

"I swear it's faster now!"

No thanks, I will stick with an OEM filter for my toyotas.

I seen our Walmart has Royal Purple oil in quarts.

Another item I will pass on.

I put a KN filter panel in a thunderbird when I was a kid, the oil from the filter screwed up the MAF sensor, I had to take it apart and clean it with contact cleaner.

If you do not do UOAs and are a weekend schmo mechanic you might not know that K&N filter poorly nor be able to detect it.

Its all about brand recognition rather that actual performance.

Now if they do not sell well, thats another story. Walmart will drop them after closeout.

Walmart's merchandisers don't seem to know their auto products clientele too well. Those clients usually are 1-the cheapest price possible and 2-the best value for their money. Royal Purple oils have been sitting on my Walmart's shelves collecting dust while all the Mobil 1 sells out constantly. The K&N filters will meet the same fate. And my Walmart is NOT in a lower income area.

Sadly my Walmart NEVER has close out prices on oil and filters. And for that matter none of the nearby auto parts stores ever have clearances on close out oil and filters either

I like royal purple, but I am also economical. I hoped their price would drop when it hit Walmart shelfs. But, it hasn't and doesn't appear to sale well. I mean I use Valvoline SYN and Maxlife, and Havoline HM, when Maxlife is out of stock. I mean 17,23, and 14, for those oils and RP, just doesn't make sense.

I don't think they will go over well
The price is over 7 bucks on the cheapest one and anyone that knows anything about filters will just get an Ultra for a little bit more
Time will tell
