Anchorage, Alaska is the same way. Almost ANY men's item is locked away, and they won't even display their sunglasses. I had to ask and was directed to sporting goods. The sales guy got a key and brought out a small case that had about 15-20 men's sunglasses in it. I asked him why so few and why so much security. He said the homeless / vagrants types steal WalMart blind. Lots of women's stuff is locked away, too.

I ordered some Sta-Bil pressure washer pump cleaner from ebay, and today someone from Walmart delivered the package. The driver had the windows down, and was LOUDLY blasting rap music as they delivered. It was pretty disconcerting. I had no idea what was going on, because the seller wasn't Walmart. Anyway, it seems that some of the Walmart workers are just as bad as their customers.

Men's briefs have been locked up at the local Walmart for at least the last 3-4 years now. It's like there's more stuff locked up than out in the open. At least they have a lot of workers around with keys.

If I'm not mistaken, Walmart is going to implement some variant of RFID on products in the store. Maybe that will help them reduce shrinkage?

Out of curiosity, I searched my local Walmart for items that are locked up.

1. Guns
2. Vehicle replacement bulbs
3. Personal lubricants and those fancy massagers. 🙄 (I can imagine hearing it over the intercom now, “Customer needs assistance at the personal lubricant case!”) 🤔😂 This is all in a section where the razors, makeup, shaving gel, etc., are located. You’re supposed to pay for those items before you leave that section.
4. Video Games/some electronics.
5. Flea/tick meds

Thankfully, we haven’t gotten to the point of locking up underwear. 🤔

There is a wide variety of security measures in the different Walmarts in my area. You can always tell which ones to avoid by whether or not there are locks on the bathrooms. Locked bathrooms equals bad part of town and a no-go for me.

Those are locked up at the store I mentioned earlier but presumed that is 100% the case at every WM anywhere. I do want to say they have some other stuff in the sporting goods section locked up in jewelry-type display cases - maybe knives, gun scopes, etc.

Yes, Guns are locked up everywhere.
Items #2, 3, and 5 on my list are recent lock-ups at our location.
