Walmart Brand Synthetic oil

I just joined this site today.
I have been using Mobil 1 oil and I saw walmart has their own brand now for a fraction of the cost of Mobil 1 .
I would like to hear about what users of the Walmart brand have to say about it as well as anyone else that has experience or specs on it. How many kilometers is it recommended for use before replacing it ? (I am in Canada)

Are you talking about Supertech Synthetic or Tech2000 Synthetic sold in Canada? Generally speaking, Supertech Synthetic gets pretty good used oil analysis. A lot of people are skeptical though because it is a bargain basement synthetic, but most results have been very good.

Personally, I think it is a better choice than most premium brand conventional oils. If you shop around though, you'll often find other premium brand synthetics occasionally go on sale for about the same price as Supertech Synthetic. Supertech filters are pretty good too - better than Fram according to most people.

Stay with this site and you will learn much about lubracants. Yes, Supertech is a good oil at a good price according to the used oil analysis(Used Oil Analysis), but so is Mobil 1 though it's a bit pricy. And as Throckmorton has stated, you will learn much as far as what is on sale and where! This way you can make some very good purchaces in the future on some very good oils such as Mobil 1. I personaly have learned a great deal at BITOG in terms of what oils/auto products are on sale at the places where I shop, sometimes even before the adds come out. Which lubes are the better ones for the money. Which oils are simply the best non price dependant. How many miles that I can travel on my vehicles before changing the oil/filter.(I don't do 3 month 3000 mile oil/filter changes anymore). Which products not to waste our money on. You will also learn how the read the ware particles on an analysis report.

It's true. There is no SuperTech oil in Canadian Wal Marts. The OP must be referring to Tech2000 Synthetic which is bottled and possibly made by Sakety-Kleen Canada. It seems to be a good oil and it smells like ANs!

A few weeks ago I picked up a 5 quart jug of Pennzoil Platinum at CT for $22.99. And this week at CT they have 4.4L jugs of their Formula 1 synthetic for $19.99. I believe Walmart charges almost $23 for a 4.4L jug of Tech 2000 synthetic and I've never seen it go on sale.

Yes, it was the tech 2000 I was referring to.

Patman . . . Thanks for the heads up on the Formula 1 on sale at CTC. I phoned to see if the same sale applied out west here and sure enough it does. I will pick some up when in the city tomorrow.

I have some abbreviations that I would like explained seeing as you guys speak in oil language

What is UOV's, VOA's, TBN's, OCI's, SuperTech conventional and SM Dino and PP.

So for most of the synthetics , what would you recommend as the longest run in *kilometers* with 80+ % highway driving before changing it. I have always done my own oil changes and even though I am now ancient, I still do.
I realize there will be differences of opinions on this so I will probably settle on an average.
My truck is a 2002 Ford Ranger Fx4 with 4L , V6 engine.
It never hauls heavy loads and is primarily a pleasure vehicle used as most cars are with the added convenience of being able to load up something big and bulky occasionaly.
The only reason I drive this type of vehicle is because I have to have the 4WD to get up a mountainside road where I live when they forget to plow the road.

Two weeks ago Canadian Tire had Shell Rotella synthetic on for $23 a jug. Walmarts in Canada usually have Esso XD-3 synthetic for about $22 a jug.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the Tech2000 synthetic (probably a group III made by SafetyKleen) but there are similar priced options.

I have never used it, although I have used the Tech2000 conventional at $7 CDN a jug which seems like a pretty good deal for generic conventional for short OCIs.

Given the availability and climate in Canada, increasingly I am using two Oil change strategies:
1. Whatever conventional is on sale with a short OCI for my normally aspirated cars.
2. Esso XD-3 Synthetic for my Turbo
