My local Wally world is selling 5 qt jugs of Havoline DS for $10.00 and Pennzoil Yeller for $10.97. Which would you choose and why for a typical 5w30, 4-5k OCI? 10w30 is also for the same price, but I want to run 5w30.

Thx.

Me,I`d go for the Pennz yellow. Reason....every one I know who has ridiculously high mileage on their cars have used nothing but this stuff. It`s my current fill.

I would use PYB because it seems to have good UOA consistently. In my last vehicle it seemed to be the smoothest running oil in my engine and I tried many different oils. I like the fact that they have an in house competition with Quaker State.

I would go with Havoline given the choice between the two. Nothing against Penzoil either I have just had better luck with Havoline.

i just bought a jug of pennzoil at advance auto for 8.98..running it now in my focus...go with pennzoil...or the motorcraft synblend at china mart for 10.50 a jug...excellent deal

Any name brand dino will be fine for 5k OCIs. I run whatever is the cheapest. Pennzoil has been a solid performer and the general consensus is it uses one of the best basestocks. Havoline also turns in solid UOAs so either is a wash. Valvoline, Castrol, QS, Mobil 5000, etc., all will be great provided resonable OCIs are used.

As I recall, I think Mobil 5000 sells for $8.97 for a 5 quart jug. You can't beat that price.

Point of reference: Advance's Pennzoil's jug is 4 qts and Walmart's is 5 qts.

mine was 5 quarts of 5-30 pennzoil at aap, but i have bought a 4 qt jug of valvoline synpower at aap last summer for 10 bucks...i know what i bought

I thought all the jugs at aap are 1 Gallon (4qt)?

I got the 16 jugs of the synpower last summer for $4.95 it was like xmas in July...

i guess i didnt know what i bought...i just checked my car and it was a 4 qt jug of pennzoil...so wal mart has a better deal by a dollar and change

My Wal Mart has five quart jugs of conventional Pennzoil for $10. If you sneak around the corner though, the same jug of Quaker State is only $9.97.Weird.

The Pennzoil yb is running so incredibly smooth in my engine that I think I may return the M1 15W50 jug I was going to use at the end of the summer and swap it out for a 5 quart mini-stash of yb. Plus after reading all the UOA`s,it seems like one of the best if not the best oil available.

Same here. The Pennzoil yellow is running nicely in my car as well.
I will probably stick with their conventional, but use the synthetic in the winter. I love the way the engine spins right over when it's 20 below.
