Strolling the automotive section at Walmart today I noticed they raised there oil prices,anywhere from 10 cents to 25 cents per quart.SuperTech conventional is now $1.56 a quart!

g-man...BINGO! I was there tonight, not by choice, and the Mobil 1 was gone. I got the last Supertech 5w30 (four 5-qt jugs) and got the last 2 Havoline 5-qt.
They are always out it seems. The price increase took effect about 2 months ago here.

The oil section probably doesn't have a full time employee ordering & stocking the shelf. I was in a Walmart in FL City (the most southern Walmart on the East coast) just before you get to the Keys and the oil section was very, very empty, almost as if they didn't stock it in weeks.

From Friday to Monday the oil shelves at my Walmart are trashed. Can't find two quarts of the same oil (or transmission fluid and coolant for that matter) on the shelf. Got to go during the week when they've restocked but before the next weekend rush. Enough to make me go to NAPA, AA, AZ where at least the shelves are full all the time even if its slightly more expensive.
I went to Walmart yesterday just to look and see what they had. Shelves were full and I found they are actually carrying M1 T&S 5w30. First time I had seen it. I did not get anything though because my stash is quite substantial. The M1 was $23.00 for a 5 quart jug! Too dang expensive! I will stay with my PP and Supertech Synthetic. Amsoil filters please!!
I was in the Walmart in Mt. Pleasant, TX yesterday- and Havoline dino was up to $2.16/qt!
Made me feel much better about "falling off the wagon" the past few days & buying all that nice Havoline 5w30 SM(22 qts total) at Fred's for $1.49/qt.

Bill,those are all the same prices at my Walmart.......except,we don't have Trop Artic.Isn't that the same as Motorcraft oil?
No, One comes in a black bottle and the other in a Red one!
I'm pretty sure it's REAL close to the same stuff. Only avail in 5w30 and 10w30 so if you need 5w-20 your not buying the Trop Artic...
If your changing out the oil in a 4-5k use either (which ever one is the cheapest)
I'm shocked how much some brands have shot up from a year ago!

Can Shell Rotella T be used in my F150? Is there anything special or bad about this oil? I thought it was just for diesel engines.
I found 8 quarts of Havoline 5w30 for $1.49 at the Wal-Mart in Kentucky on the way to Lake Cumberland. The 5 quart jugs were priced at 10.94 I think. Maybe there was a math problem or they just wanted to get rid of the quart size containers.
Over $6 for a single quart for Mobil 1 is ridiculous. I only buy it there in the 5 quart bottles, which don't seem to be sold anywhere else.
Oil is still going up thru wholesale sources also. Seems there is a 2-3 month lag when crude and gas start to rise before lube oil starts climbing. Then when crude/fuel start down oil continues to rise for 2/3 months,,, only thing it'll be years before lube prices fall, other than rebates and other gimmicks.

Why's that? What grade is the Havoline? SL? SM?
FWIW we had a 1997 F-150 with the 4.6 engine at work and it lived its entire life on different brands of 15w40. We use mostly Mobil Delvac. The truck still ran like new @ 230,000 miles. Keep in mind here in the Richmond, VA area it doesn't get extremely cold. It's very safe to say that you can use it in the summer.
