Wal*Mart and SOPUS Products

Seems odd that a single store would be involved in any dispute with a major supplier. Wouldn't such disputes be handled by the corporate buyers? The store just sells the products available from the distribution center it would seem.
Has anybody ever seen anything like this before? I wonder if the store manager at that particular store just has a personal beef with SOPUS so decided to put up signs.

Johnny, thank you for clearing this issue up. It's a shame Walmart has to pick fights with its suppliers.
Correction - ONE store so far is on notice by posting signs. That certainly doesn't preclude the possibility that all other Walmart stores are on allocation, too. That ONE store may have posted signs simply because it sells disproportionately more SOPUS product than the average and the signs elliminate frequent nuisance inquiries to the department manager.
I'll give it to Ray H. Same for the Wal-Mart in Wisconsin that I worked for. The supplier got upset with our Wal-Mart and since then that Wisconsin Wal-Mart has never had Motorcraft oil or oil filters. Yet, here in Apple Valley, California the Wal-Mart here has boat loads of Motorcraft oil filters and some oil. I think it varies from Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart as weird as that is.
I've been to quite a few Wal-Marts (get my tires there) - all of them use Pennzoil as Bulk. This is really going to be a big change if they stop using Penz. What will they use instead?
It would be cool if someone put out a list of who owns what oil. I know Havoline = Chevron. Pennzoil & Quaker = Shell. Castrol = BP/Arco. Obviously Mobil = Mobil. Who owns Valvoline or Trop Artic???

Valvoline is Ashland Oil and TropArtic is Conoco/Phillips.
Yes, I agree, it varies from Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart. My small hometown Wal-Mart Supercenter, the ONLY BIG place to buy oil has a much bigger selection than the Supercenter here in my small sububurbian paradise where there are quicky lube places on every corner.

Hmm, I just got a case of PP yesterday from Walmart.
Still a lot of PP (LOL) & Quaker State at my Wal-Mart. My wal-mart has three sections (every shelf full) of oil (they have almost every brand that I know of besides Amsoil).
It is the cases of oil that will not be stocked for sale. You can buy quarts and gallons all day so far. Then the SOPUS HM and Semi-Syn will be phased out and not restocked. Unless things change this is the directive. I to can buy all I want, one quart at a time. No cases.
I suspect that this bru-ha-ha had its roots with SOPUS independent distributors complaining that SOPUS was selling oil so cheap to Walmart, that the Walmart per case price approached or was lower than the price that the independent distributors could buy from SOPUS.
I got mine in an unopened case. Price wise it was the same as if I bought all 6 individualy though. It was also the only case they had (it was behind the oil rack and they only had 3 5w-20 on the shelf, so I asked the girl at the counter if she could get me the case, so maybe thats why ?).
How many 10-minute lubes, Jiffy lubes, Mr. Lube, Quik Lube, etc., etc. are there in N. America which also use the bulk Pennzoil? If Walmart does cut Shell, maybe these quick lube places will benefit and start a price competition. The average Walmart TLE doesn't make that much money per day as the other in-store departments. They (TLE) are to basically to keep the customer in the store to shop (hence time limits on oil changes). As to whom Walmart will use for bulk oil?....have to be the cheapest (maybe recycled?), and who knows maybe WW will be cutting their own throats. Alot of the people using the TLE, will get the cheapest oil change anyhow...wether it be recycled or special price. I personally don't use Walmart TLE, since you really don't know the experience, training level, quality, or caring of the individual performing the oil change. I do buy my oil there and drop my used oil off. Just my thought
Bumping this back up to see if anyone knows if anything has changed. I find it curious, in light of the above, that the Pennzoil Platinum (Garage) Tour is scheduled to be at the Wal-Mart Stockholders meeting in Arkansas June 3rd.
I've never ever noticed cases of Pennzoil at the Walmarts near me but always cases of Quaker State. No break in price for buying a case so whats the diff? I will say that I've noticed Pennzoil Platinum being in very short supply though

Pennzoil with PureBase (yellow qts.) advertised this week here in Oklahoma in Dollar General (DG) stores for $1.75/qt. As a "new" product offering from DG, available in 5w30, 10w30 or 10W-40.
