Hey all. I have a 2002 F150 SuperCrew 2WD that I strictly daily drive. When rotating my tires a few days ago, I noticed my front and rear pads (both Severe Duty) were at about 4-5 mm. The rotors I use are Raybestos. I’m not hard on the brake nor do I ride them, so I’m surprised that these pads didn’t last very long.. I do have brand new calipers in the rear (Element3) and the front calipers work just fine.

Any recommendations on trying another brand? I will like to stick with Semi-metallic. I would go OEM Ford but I don’t know what friction material is used with the pads for my truck.. Thanks.

I found on my 04 F150 it tore through front pads. I do live in a hilly area and my street is a deadend, but quite steep even for only 9/10 of a mile. I used EBC green in the front and Power Stop in the rear. Lasted a lot longer. Running the same combo on my 15 F150 with smiles.

What material does EBC green pads have?

Semi metallic won’t last as long as a metallic or ceramic but you also have to make sure your rotors are rated for the type of pad you have. Like you could have a rotor rated for semi metallic then put ceramic pads on it then be in the same boat as you are now because the pads will eat the rotors and wear down a whole lot faster. In 2002 you could have had any of the three types. I’m a Raybestos type of guy so I like Raybestos for brakes. Wagner is good too and Akebono.

Very true on the right combos. I was looking at Wagner TQ’s (semi-metallic) and Power Stop rotors. I ran Raybestos rotors previously and they have done great with the Wagner SD’s.

I like them and picked them up since a mechanic on here uses them a lot on customer’s cars. They perform well and last a while.

I haven’t ever used Power Stop but hear good thing about them. Definitely worth a try I guess. I’ve got Raybestos pads and rotors on my truck currently semi metallic and so far so good. Just standard pads and rotors nothing fancy. Wagner I’ve used with no issues too.

Are all the pads wearing evenly?

"Severe duty" is a marketing term. It does not mean all that much.
Yes they all wore evenly and no shuddering or squeaking at all. Just typical heavy brake dust from semi-metallic pads. I read more raving reviews about TQ’s vs Severe Duty pads so the marketing you speak of makes sense

I would not get to focused on the material type- they are really just marketing terms. Semi-metallic compound #1 can be very different than Semi-metallic compound #2.

Overall, we have had the most consistent results with OE pads from the dealer. Aftermarket is truly a hit/miss, especially in demanding applications.
