I didnt watch the video, But I saw the title. My 2019 Jetta 6M was showing signs of rod knock with hot oil from new, The third sump of Motul 508/509 made it worse, Plus it was drinking the Motul - this 508 spec is a skinny 0W20.
But 0.7 litre of 0W40 when the sump was low miraculous fixed it, and it ran great and strong and ne'er made a peep of racket till I turned it in 6700 miles later.

Viscosity tailoring is important in the age of these F.E. low HTHS lubricants.

Did beard boy say what he thought the cause of the engine failure was?

Thank for the post I plan to watch it later with much interest. - Ken

If you suspected rod knock on a brand new engine why did you not bring it back to the dealership instead of experimenting with oil weights?? You seem to have a lot of issues on brand new engines for some reason... Fairly sure it wasn't rod knock, the injectors and injector pumps on the EA211 are very loud when hot and new, mine has gotten quite a bit quieter over the last few thousand miles at idle as its broken in.

Fairly sure it was. Raps at light load at throttle lift just before shifting. And it's pretty ubiquitous.

Bearing clearance will be a few tenths one way or the other on any engine. If you get one with an outlier - that may be problematic

It was a lease it it blows it blows, but i gave it care and feeding and saved it.

Well, most car ARE junk, that's the way it is in my world. Then there is really bad fuel around here.
I pay to much attention to developing or existing issues as I've trained myself that way. Many would drive on without noticing or a care.
Remember my experience may not be your experience; digest it, but don't take it personally.

In my experience all the new 1.4s make that knocking nose when letting off the throttle. I don’t think it’s an issue as many now have over 150K.

No, they couldn’t figure out what caused the noise. One main bearing had a little wear.

Not even sure if that single bearing actually shows wear. He mentioned this engine could be teared down formerly. Could be damage done by a the mechanic who did that job formerly.

Not sure if it’s the same eng as my recent knocking Jetta rental. But it was quiet when I got it and after some spirited operation, had a substantial knock.

the cars are priced well. But that knock turned me off.

That is concerning. Was the knocking at idle?

There's quite a few people claiming knock they experienced, but if that small sample size is representative we'd be seeing way more of these failing I think, which we just don't. I'm convinced there's another sound going on that sounds knock-like. I did some googling, and there's a lot of talk about this in the Golf, doesn't seem to be a consensus, some say its evap purge valve, others HPFP sound, others VVT actuators... But the general consensus seems to be that it's "normal TSI sounds" and no failures related to it that I can find.
