Will do oil analysis and I will keep you posted!

Update!
Amazon is not carrying PU 5W40 anymore. They cancelled my order, so it will be probably M1 0W40.

M1 should serve you well. You can almost always get it for about $6/qt or less, especially now since they've started selling it in 5qt jugs.

Yeah that is true. In local Wal mart they still carry 1 qt bottles, but if that is the case, probably soon they will get 5qt jugs.
I used M1 5W30 in mazda Millenia i owned once. Great oil. Once I put Castrol Syntec 5W30 and you could notice difference in engine sound. With M1 engine was much smoother!

OK guys,
Oil is changed. I used Mobil 1 0W40 with OEM filter.
Now, I have one very strange question.
In manual it says that engine takes approx 4.4 quarts of oil.
I put that much and it was not enough. Now I have 4.7qts in and oil barely reached midway between MIN and MAX, and that is after 2hrs since I shut down engine!
Now, anyone had similar issue with this engine? Is it possible maual is wrong?

Could be.
Will see in the morning, I will add 0.2qt and that should be 4.9!

Probably, bcs now I have 4.9qt and still oil level is at mid point!
Is there a reason why oil filter on this particular model should not be changed evey time, bcs that just goes againt my logic?

OK, car has 5qt and it is OK now. VW dealership in ATL from which I bought car said 5qt! in manual it says 4.4qt WITH filter. Obviously that is not true (although they put disclimer and said that it is possible that different years will have different capacity.
Mobil 1 sounds much better than Castrol 5W30 504.00/507.00 that dealership in ATL is using. It seems that engine is smoother and has better sound. Maybe subjective but that is what I think.

Update!
I have now 5,200 miles with Mobile1.
I am not going to send oil for UOA, but from what I noticed is that M1 does not produce such a strong gasoline odor like Castrol 5W30 SLX was producing when I got the car.
Also, Castrol after 2000 miles had diesel like black color, while M1 is still kind of orange.
Although, I made two long trips, one 315 miles in one direction and one 793 miles in one direction.

As for total oil capacity, I'd simply defer to the dipstick. Most folks won't get a warm-n'-fuzzy anyway until the dipstick shows an appropriately full level, regardless of what the owner's manual says.

For whatever reason I'm into contrarian things, and I'm now using two less-common but very highly thought of options for my 2008 2.0T Passat, Total Quartz 9000 5W/40 oil and Hengst E27H filters. The "Tanning Mom" told me to buy these.

I always respected Total products!

I personally do not use a vw approved oil on my 2.0t.... I use shell rotella t6

something that may help with carbon buildup is a low SAPs oil ....look at 502.00/505.01 oils...

Let me dig out this topic.
You mentioned here that low SAPS oil would help carbon build up?
What 505.01 oli would be good? I kind of build personal distaste for Castrol 5W40. I do not know how is this new Edge, but previous NON-505.01 was horrible.

You could try M1 ESP 5w-30.

Yeah, but kind of those 30 weight I was always considering GC as the only I would go with, but I prefer 40 weight more. Thing is GC is high SAPS, I have it in a car now, nooo issues what so ever, however, car is starting to show signs of carbon in the morning.
That being said, I do make short trips in the morning, although later I do little longer one. Also, often have runs700-800 miles.
Obviously have to try it. And also there is that issue of fuel in oil.
You have any knowledge of 5W40 505.01 which one showed as good?

I don't, but why does it have to be 505.01 compliant?

Got it. In addition to 505.01, anything carrying BMW LL-04 spec or MB 229.51 will also be low SAPS, for example M1 ESP 5w-40, however, I don't have any first hand experience with this oil. None of my engines require low SAPS stuff, so I don't go out of my way to find it.
