VW/Audi G052911A2 - what is it? Something lighter?

My Audi 6spd manual calls for VW / Audi G052911A2 fluid. When the weather drops below -5C 2nd and 3rd gear syncros are not happy! Does anyone have the specs for this factory fluid? Maybe there is a good alternative for cold weather performance?

So now I know it is a 75W-90 which is what I had guessed.

Does anyone have a technical data sheet or VOA for this factory fluid?

Wonder if I could use a 75W-80 like the Redline MTL to improve cold weather shifting?
 
**Update - The Redline app guide shows MTL 75W80 GL-4 Gear Oil as the recommended fill. Any advice re whether or not I should give this a try or if another mfg makes an even better cold weather 75W-80? Still a bit confused about the GL4 and GL5 recommendations.

It looks like the Fuchs Audi approved fluid is actually a GL5.

Upon further research it seems like the G052911A2 is most likely a 75W-80 and quite possibly relabeled FUCHS SINTO FLUID 75W80 in which case I probably can't find anything better for sub-zero shifting

This is 75W G052512A2. Note it is NOT a 75w-90.

We noticed a bit of notchiness in the single digit temps and below, recently... But that signals to me that its time to change, since it has been a few years.

Here is Fuchs Sintofluid 75W, which we will put in the Rabbit when it is warmer... Note this one does hold VW recommendations of: VW TL 521 71 ( 052 171 A1/A2), VW TL 521 78 (G 052 178 A2), VW TL 525 12 (G 052 512 A2), VW TL 726 (G 052 725 A2/G 055 726 A2/G 060 726 A2/G 070 726 A2)

Here is Fuchs Sintopoid 75w-90, which is supposedly spec for Saab MTF 0063, and also suited for BMW non-LSD differentials as an alternate to Castrol XO/XJ. Fuchs recommends this (not approved apparently) for: VW TL 521 45-Y (G 052 145 A2)

Here is Pentosin FFL 3, which is also BMW MTF-5 per the ZF documentation. This will go in the 135i MT. It carries Porsche approval and is listed on ZF TE-ML 11.

I plan on doing VOAs of all these shortly.
 
Great photos and info JHZR2. The only thing missing is the VW/Audi G052911A2 which I believe is different than the fluids you posted above.

If you Google G052911A2 many results show FUCHS SINTO FLUID 75W80 as the alternative and I can't find any reference to G052911A2 being a 75W-90. Also, both the Redline Oil and the Fuchs online vehicle app guides list 75W-80 is the recommended weight for a 2012 S4 6spd manual.
 
I know. As I was typing all those specs I got a sinking feeling as I didn't see yours.

Still, I suspect that if you need something that shifts a little easier, the 75W fluid may do the trick (Id look at the cold flow characteristics of the 75W the 75w-80 and the 75w-90 online to verify), since it does meet a lot of VW recommendations...

In my 318i specified for Dex II, Ive run Amsoil MTF 5w-30 for years and have been very pleased. Redline didn't maintain shift feel quality the way the Amsoil has.
 
The spec is 75W-90 but most VW/Audi OEM fluids are THIN. Most of the OEM fluids are 75W.

If you have a FWD car, just pick a 75W or 75W-80 and not worry. Pentosin "should" be thinner than the Fuchs.

My transmission has fresh G052911A2 with ~2000 miles on it so I only want to change if the new fluid is more or less guaranteed to improve the cold weather shifting.
