I bought this fresh quart bottle from our VW Parts Dept maybe a month and a half ago. It was shaken vigorously before a sample was poured into the sample container kit purchased via Amsoil for Oil Analyzers

Curious what the crowd here thinks. I definitely did not mark the brand as Amsoil so maybe that’s what the lab thought it was despite me clearly labeling it as “VW Audi OEM Brand”.

Castrol 0w30 has moly in it according to forum post. I think there was a voa of valvoline vw504 spec, that looks like this.

I've added it to the VOA Database. There really isn't another oil in the database that looks like this. STP 0w-30 comes close, but has way too much Boron and no Titanium. The only other oil I've seen with that much Titanium is Castrol Euro 0w-40 (the old SN formula). But that also has much more Calcium, Phosphorus and Zinc. As mentioned above, this may be Castrol's LL 0w-30, which we don't have in the database. We do have their 0w-30 A3/B4.

Dealership pricing aside, if this formulation is unique, why would one choose it over anything else? Any specific benefits or drawbacks?
If there are other OEM approved oils this one wouldn't necessarily win since the convenience of trying to source the OEM oil can be tricky for some. That would be my thoughts. If you can get it & price is right...can't lose?

I should have worded my question better. I chose ESP bc the feedback here is that it is clean running and a PAO/Ester base. Why would one run this oil if it was the same price and widely available vs say ESP or another 504/507 forum favorite.

Well, like you mentioned, base oil is nice on the ESP & virtually no rebates on OEM branded oil? I'm sure they're a myriad of reasons to pick one or the other. If price was the same, no rebates, easy availability etc, then I'd say OEM oil would have some more buyers but probably wouldn't beat Mobil 1.
