Not sure where to ask this. It doesn't really fit well in the HDEO section

VW 507 Substitute

Has anyone looked at the substitution of Chevron Delo 600 ADF (0.4% SA) for VW 507? It's supposed to drastically increase the DPF life and double the drain intervals. I would think the 10W-30 might be a reasonable substitute for VW 507.

A friend asked because he can basically get this for free from work for his sons 2014 Diesel Passat.

Delo 600 ADF could be a substitute. But with only 0.4% SA, I won't increase the OCI. 15 000 miles would be more than enough in my opinion with so few additives.
The only detail on which I doubt is the NOACK : the NOACK limit with 504/507 is 11% NOACK, moreover, as usually 504/507 carries too MB 229.51 or MB 229.52, the max NOACK becomes 10%. I suspect this Chevron Delo to be near 15% NOACK. Is is too much if you want to limit deposits on pistons and valves.

Knowing the NOACK would help to choose, in my opinion.

The NOACK isn't currently released. I have seen unconfirmed reports of 5% but I'm pretty doubtful of that. The Organic Adds did halve camshaft wear and it did double drain interval compared to the reference CK-4 Oil in Volvo's Engine Test which is no mean trick for a 7.0 TBN Oil.

Flashpoint is 448F and the Specific Gravity is 0.862 (Higher than typical VW 507). A specific gravity that high usually points to a pretty stout base stock.

It's supposed to extend DPF Life by 2.5x and eliminate cleanings.

You guys forgetting that VW 504.00/507.00 has highest requirements when it comes to wear in W30 category of low-SAPS oils. It is not all about SA levels and Noack.

He found a 5 Qt Jug of Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5W-30 for $21.97 at WalMart but wasn't sure that was 507. He ended up buying Pennzoil Platinum LX 0W-30 somewhere.

How high are those requirements for ACEA E6/E9 "low saps" HDEOs...?

I am thinkering with an idea to buy pail of Rimula R6lm for both cars...

Why would anyone want a substitute for VW 504.00/507.00? They are some really good oils.
I dont know what is the deal behind.....but vw 504/507 oils with Motdc are almost non existent.... 1.4 D4-D in my Yaris has chain driven camshafts.....wich are prone towards stretching....lets say that I would like to postpone that with oil which would have molybdenum in its OEM formulation...

Oil-club.ru VW 504/507 oils

Am I splitting hairs here?

That was a good move, the Euro 5w30 L at Wally's doesn't carry a single VW approval. The 0w30 LX meets VW 504, a very tough spec. He probably got it at Advance, at least that is the only place around here to get it over the counter.

The Platinum Euro L 5W-30 used to be 502.00 / 505.00. I don't know if they reformulated or if the license expired.

The 0W-30 LX was listed as 504/507 in the Audi Technical Bulletin and by the local Shell Distributor so that's what he went looking for.

For some reason the local AAP were out of M1 ESP.

It must have expired as VW502 is easy to meet. Surprised they didn't pay to renew for an oil sold at Wally's.

502.00? Euro L was VW 504.00/507.00, not 502.00.

Here it is.

Yeah that Platinum LX is $11 a quart at Walmart. You are in Ravenol/Motul/Amsoil/Red Line territory with that price. I would go with the original ESP M1 on sale at Napa from time to time to save money if that's what we are talking about. The Delo 600 looks to be more than the typical supertech user on this board would be willing to spend.

I keep hearing this but when actually looking at the backs of bottles on the shelves at walmart. I can never seem to find the 502/505 manufacturer approval on anything.
