VRP with Moly E.P 132

Here in the U.S., VRP 5w-30 is the highest viscosity i see.
Would like to run a little higher viscosity in a 3.0L turbo, Volvo T6. While staying with VRP for cleaning. More specifically, I'm interested in a slightly higher HTHS more so than viscosity at 100C.

So, right, wrong or indifferent, I added 1 bottle of Schaeffer's Moly E.P. 132 to the sump which holds 8 qts.

My question is, will the Moly E.P. 132 increase HTHS my a measurable amount?

I could add 2 qts of 132 and be in the treatment range. 16oz to 4-5 qt. Sump.

Thoughts?

1 pint of EP to 5 qts oil will usually thicken the visc 1 to 2 grades. 1 pint to 8qts would be in the 40grade range. I don't know about hths increase but I wouldn't worry about it. EP is about twice as thick as Lucas and is in the ~ 200visc range at 100°c, iirc. You would be fine with just the one bottle. You can find a visc calculator if you want to do the math properly.

250-290cst @ 100°c

Sent an inquiry to Schaeffer Manufacturing about an increase in HTHS by adding 132. I received the following response:

""Yes, the 132 will increase the HTHS viscosity as well as standard viscosity values.""
From a technical support engineer.

I think I read that Valvoline Restore & Protect has an HTHS of 3.2.

Wlk,
Thanks for your response and provided info.

Probably not gaining anything by adding it, other than to curb some OCD. 😀

I use it in my vehicles, it cured a valve tap in my lawnmower & my buddies Kabota and I would recommend it if needed.
I have thought about doing the same thing in my latest vehicle as you did. Wish VRP would come out w 10w40 but so be it.

It will increase HTHS quite a bit I suspect.
