I run 0w40 in the 3.5 in our Quest. Been running Amsoil Signature 0w40 for a few years now.
Been running the Amsoil cvt fluid as well, performs well.

Castrol Edge 0w30 is popular in the Nissan community for the VQ series

Pep Boys has it. And they will have their annual Founders Day sale this month, and Castrol synthetic is usually included in the sale for about $20 for 5qts and a filter. You can get 2 deals at that price.

I'd run only a synthetic in those engines - Nissans do have small sumps and the VQ engines are somewhat hard on their oil. Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Castrol Edge but I know of a shop that's running Warren-made ServicePro D1G2 oil as default in these.

Keep an eye out on the oil gallery gaskets on these - Nissan used a paper gasket to seal them and the fasteners have a tendency to back out. If you're getting low oil pressure or a timing chain rattle, it's time to get those done.
