What national brand of automatic transmission fluid would be suitable for my '01 V70 XC? I prefer not to have to purchase the Volvo brand.

I'm using Red Line in an 850 Turbo for almost 10 years of it's 11 year life. Every 30k I drain about what will come out and replace it with an equal amount, almost 4 quarts. Next time I'm going to use my new vacuum pump and see if it gets more.

If you don't want to use the Volvo fluid, Mobil 3309 is an acceptable substitute, and what most dealers are pumping in bulk anymore.

I'd steer clear of the universal fluids in the later AW five-speeds unless you're absolutely sure, but that's just me.

Mobil 3309 IS the Volvo fluid. The trick is finding some in less than case quantities, altho a 12 quart case might be what you want. Any shop that retails Mobil products should be able to order it for you. The 3309 has the correct friction properties for the Aisin transmission in that model Volvo and other vehicles with certain Aisin transmissions, Toyota, etc.

Another source is the Toyota dealer. Their T-IV ATF is the same thing. Anything over $5 qt is a rip off for Mobil 3309/Toyota T-IV ATF.

While it wouldn't necessarily surprise me in 2007, what is your source for declaring EOM the vendor for Volvo's service fill contract?
