"CarBuzz has discovered that the Arteon R's bumper designs are destined for American shores, which means that the car they go on will be joining us soon."

"So when can we expect the new Arteon R to arrive stateside? We have no idea, but we're quite certain that it won't be for a while yet."

So basically it isn't a sure thing that the Arteon R (why not just call it the R-teon) will ever be sold here. The article also goes on about patents being approved, etc. but that doesn't mean anything. Automakers patent things all the time that never come to be.

I have seen plenty of Arteons at the local VW dealers around here sitting on the lots. Have literally only ever seen 1 out in the wild in the past couple of years. We will most likely see the Tiguan R for sale here before the Arteon R ever shows up.

I guess it depends on the location of the dealership. They sell well here but i know the national numbers are low (but i don't know how many are imported here to begin with). I'd just import the R and leave the lower spec'd variants overseas - making it more special of a purchase.

Don't know why VW would bother even if it is a great car, it won't sell. VW has been down this road before with the Phaeton, and they're in even worse shape in the US than before. VW needs to generate sales in the US of A so just give the people what they want, another generic SUV/crossover.

The Arteon is one of the best cars that people won't buy... I drove one when we were getting my Wife's R and it is a great sedan. That was 2 years ago and I think I have seen 1 on the road, and we are in an area with a lot of VW's.

VW has a bit of a premium market perception problem, example; good friend's (but not car people at all) were looking at an SUV as were we. I mentioned that I had driven the Atlas SEL and that I really liked it. "Who makes that?", "Volkswagen"...followed by a scrunched up nose. They bought an Acura.
