Hello everybody, this is my first post at this forum so I will start with an experiment I've done... I live in Spain and here the used oil analysis don't seem to be something normal, I don't know any company that make oil analysis here, sure there are some but I also don't want to spend the money of a few oil changes so I prefer to change it relativity often in compare to what others do in my riding group...
My bike is a Yamaha WR450F'08 and I use Mobil Delvac MX 15W40 mineral HDEO oil, by what I've read so far this should be good stuff... My riding style is enduro, mostly slow stuff with some trial in first gear.. Most of the time 1/3 to 1/2 gas used.. SO it is far from "wide open"
I was wondering if I could by some manners test myself in a very easy way if the oil lost some of the viscosity after time, but this test is only practical at low temps so I suppose I can only measure viscosity lost by fuel dilution and not by VI shear-down as this is only(?) noticeable at operation temperatures I think...
So here we go, these were all of the new oils I've lying around for estimating different viscosity’s, the red ones are the used Delvac oils, the 2h one was the oil used for brake-in and the other two was at standard 20h changes:
So, what do you think ? Is this test somewhat useful estimating viscosity loss or is it completely useless ?
Thanks !
