Viscosity question

I stated this in Nissan forum but in my V6 3.5L, one can run 5W30 conventional or any synthetic 20 grade.

So, I run synthetic 5W20, because this has a more narrow cut of base oils and fewer VII's.

In any oil analysis, the 5W20 still shows up as a 20 grade.

Good plan! I'm doing exactly the same, for the same reasons, except in a vehicle in which the manufacturer discourages using any oil other than 0W-20. This is in a mild climate, rarely ever starting the engine at less than 0ºC. (I made that choice based somewhat on posts of SonofJoe.)
