Haha, but good luck forcing her to get it to work. Linux does great for servers, but out of each time I've install Ubuntu or Fedora on my personal computers, something doesn't work. I plan to try OpenSUSE before I write-off Linux entirely.

Only device I've ever had problems with was my old Creative web cam. Otherwise everything works.

Alot of you people should learn about virtualization software and alot of your problems wouldn't be such a headache to get rid of.

I've been doing virtualization (in varying degrees) since the inception of VMWare.

It's a fantastic technology.

But really, for people who don't game, a Linux install is just a clean and simple solution, especially with simplistic distro's like Ubuntu now available.

Primarily VMWare. As I said, I've been using it since it first came out, so it is by and large, the product I am the most comfortable with.

I have also used VirtualPC, PearPC and a few other free Linux products.

I've only used VirtualPC, but I wanted to try VMWare, but couldn't find a free version.

She would use a Mac, I know. She mentioned once while playing with her IPOD and she thinks Apple is cool. Macs are a little pricey for me, but I would run free Ubuntu, she wouldn't go for that though. So for now, were stuck in windows XP.

Just run OSX hacked to run on your sys. Not too difficult a task.

VMWare Player and VMWare Server are both free. You can pair the two together to make a functional setup

I use a full version of workstation.

So VMWare Server is the correct one for running a virtual OS. I couldn't get any help running it back when I tried it. Perhaps I'll give it another go when I have to install Windows Server 2008 for classes.

Server allows you to create a VM. You can then run it with Player.
