No it's very believable. Vets have enormous student loans, healthcare is through the roof for everyone, equipment costs a lot, and there is an expectation for all to have all the latest stuff. Someone has to pay.

He told me the moment he heard the guy actually arranging to sell his Harley, he'd have done it free...that cat LOVED riding on the bike! The dude had made a sort of pouch for the cat on the tank, and that cat would JUMP into it the moment the dude picked up his helmet!

It was good for business...he thinks every biker in that club brought their pets to him--from a couple of kittens to a Newfoundland to a standard poodle to a pair of ferrets! They didn't even hold his choice of bike (an early-80's BMW) against him.

Yet, many people that share your sentiments have no problem eating pork.

I say this to remind us that often our values teeter on being hypocritical. Pigs rank as more intelligent than both cats and dogs. There is little, if any data that suggests pigs have less cognition than dogs and cats. Yet, most of us (including me) have no problem eating pigs that were raised in less than ideal conditions.

My point is, we need to be careful when getting up on the pedestal and preaching high moral standards on one hand, but ignoring them entirely on the other. This might also apply to our tolerance to use these same animals to test the drugs we use (I'm no saint in these matters).

This is directed at the audience at large, not you in particular NHHEMI.

Just food for thought.

The type of pet is not relevant to me. So comparing cats and dogs to animals we eat doesn't work for me. My point is about the responsibility people have as a pet owner.

It would indeed be a nicer world if we could all be responsible pet owners. That goes for ANY pet.

In a perfect world we probably wouldn't slaughter the ones we think taste good, either!
