Verizon Wireless to end unlimited data plan

What's better than when "competitors" match each other to equally bring LESS value to the customer?

What's better? A company who isn't a [censored] and swoops in to steal the market? We can only hope, because I've been with Verizon for over 2 years.

Check the news, they are trying to do damage control due to the negative publicity. I was just talking to my family about this data plan nonsense with verizon. If they do follow through, my entire extended family may be moving carriers.

SBP dropped Verizon last year and went with T-mobile unlimited data (I got me one of them fancy HTC Sensation phones). Funny thing, our bill is only slightly higher than Verizon - and we had no data at all and limited talk time with Verizon. For the first time in my life I might the right phone choice!

I'm one of those grandfathered data users. I read the "clarification", and what they're actually doing is not allowing you to get the discounted upgrade phone when your contract expires. At a minimum, my contract states that I'll have unlimited data for the next 16 months or so. As of now, they aren't "discontinuing" it, but I guess I'll know for sure in 16 months...

What I do know is that from my house I'm getting 24/16Mpbs up/down on 4G. It's faster than my Comcast cable internet, and it's reliable enough that I'm on the verge of dropping Comcast.

Us too. We have four phones, one with unlimited 3G. Our contract is up in a month or two. We've had Verizon for 6 years, but it might be time to switch. I really wish we could get US Cellular in this part of the country.

What's better?

I am pretty sure JHZR2's comment was meant to be a sarcasm.

Sure was. Just got the nasty text from AT&T because I went over 3 GB of data this billing cycle, and they are going to throttle me. I hear Ill only get 256k until the end of the billing cycle.

And I have a grandfathered "unlimited" plan on AT&T.

no haggling either, take it on the chin, hmmmm, aint it great and its not food. U dont have to have a cell phone, but they got us by the ego hairs and the jumping Joneses so to speak. imho do i hear steps of many feet going to Cricket or some other carrier.

And what carrier would you go to? Even if one offers unlimited data, they all throttle speeds when you hit a certain cap. This is the unfortunate future of cell phones. I expect sprint to drop unlimited as soon as they have LTE rolled out. They basically already hinted towards it in interviews.

The markets ain't done yet, creativity by some genius will bring back the unlimited, its just a matter of time, remember Ma Bell , she could do no wrong, ugh, she isn't around anymore either. I don't care if all the cellphone companies fail. I grew up without one, and guess what, I'm not in the funny farm yet. HMMM, no microwave, no calculators, no pagers, no fax machines, no video games, very few foreign cars, maybe 3 types of oil, and we had to talk to each other using words from the mouth, mercy we were deprived and abused back then. HMJ. PS, I do remember our old fashion autos had mostly v8 engines, no sowing machines much in 1966.

Lol @ courierdtiver, last I checked 99.9998% of the motoring miles were perfectly safe before cellphones (since they are touted as a safety/security item now). If that has gone up to 99.9999%, it's really quite irrelevant. A cell isn't a safety item, isn't a replacement for good maintenance, a full tank, or teaching your 16 yo daughter to change a tire and be slightly savvy with the machine she is operating (including willing to get her hands and $200 Abercrombie jeans dirty).

I do like having data on my smartphone for a number of reasons.

I still wonder if they will be able to offer a "lessor" plan now eg($15/month) for minimal users of data.

It turns out the vast majority of the users are using less than the allocated amounts of data while a small select few are the bandwidth hogs.
