Given all the crap that Wells Fargo did to customers a few years, like opening up new accounts without the customer asking I decided never Wells Fargo.

All big banks are crooked, Wells got caught.

I have been screwed by BoUnamerican but not Wells. I have been a customer of both for decades. I wouldn't trust either, or any other bank for that matter.

Pick your poison. I agree with @tmorris1, the 2% without any games to play is a pretty good deal.

A general comment on all credit cards. I have noticed that when paying with a credit card more than ever you are now required to pay an additional service fee, usually 3% or 4% of the bill. This is not just at restaurants. Even the marinas are now charging it for docking and services. My check book used to remain at home but now accompanies me, along with cash. Any credit card cash back offers are now becoming a wash as you barely break even, depending on where you spend.

Noticed this trend first started with gas stations but is now becoming more widely adopted. Correct me if I am wrong, but in Europe I recall it is illegal to charge a different amount (service fee) if paying by credit card?

I don't run into fees very often where I shop other than a few restaurants where I pay cash. You would be right about the fees canceling out the reward in that case.
The problem with cash is when the person taking it can't count it or do math very well so that can become a problem too.

Its rampant everywhere here, but now its just "service fee" and there is no sign or cash discount sign. I wonder if they charge it no matter how you pay?

Going to the bank and carrying cash isn't free either. Neither is it free for the merchant to handle cash. The whole world is a grift now.

So I just take my 2% and don't worry much about it anymore. Can't fight city hall.
