Dear BITOG,

I have Total cell service and FIOS Internet. I just learned that a $15 FIOS credit is available if I "bundle" the two services.

https://www.totalwireless.com/bundles/fios

I would love to save $15 per month, but my experience with Verizon billing makes me wonder "What's the catch?"

Apparently, the services will still be billed separately, and the offer is available to existing and new customers. I can't see what Verizon gets out of it, so I'm apprehensive that this will have some unintended consequence that I can't reverse.

Has anybody tried this yet? (It is also available with the other Verizon-owned prepaid wireless services.) Is there something obvious that I'm missing? Am I just too jaded and suspicious?

Total is not a bad deal if you have 4 lines. If you only have one or two then you should use Visible or consider a third party.

Phones are locked to Total. I am on a "legacy" plan from before Verizon bought them, 3 lines for about $82. That's a lot cheaper than anything Total offers now.

This change basically involves entering some information to link my accounts for a $15 discount on Verizon home internet. My concern is that it seems good for me but not for them, and I wonder if there's more to it.

I've had Total since around the beginning of covid. Pretty happy since they run on verizon. Customer service can be a hassle but once you get settled in it works flawlessly. Was recently at a Tigers/Cubs game with a nearly sold out game and I could text multiple photos with nearly no delay.

Read the fine print for the offer. It could just be a bundle discount to lock you as a customer.

Now that Total Wireless is part of Verizon, your devices might already be unlocked, or you may be entitled to have them unlocked for free. https://world-wire.com/total-wireless-unlock-policy/ Even if you stay with Total Wireless, it doesn't hurt for your phone to be unlocked.
