Well formulated product with lots of engine bench testing at Ashland/Valvoline to develop it properly.

Oil analysis results of customers are consistently good.

I used it prior to BitOG. Easy to obtain 5w-40 A3/VW502. This was in another Milenium though. I just picked up some for a friend's Audi turbo for $.50c a quart.

you got 5w40 synpower for $0.50/qt

Valvoline Synpower is the real deal. You're talking about some seriously high quality oil there. I'm using their MaxLife 10W-40 oil right now in my little Buick; and it's the most awesomely smooth oil I have ever had pleasure of experiencing. It also smells like Royle Purple, and we all know that RP is a full synthetic oil, so go figure.

Got only 3 quarts though. Since it's for-a-friend, quart #4 is the expensive Costal Synthetic which costme TWICE as much!

Not a bad oil by any means. Sure it's g3 selling for close to the price of g4, but the performance should be as good as most other g3 and g4s. I perfer it over castrol syntec.

If you are using mobil1 and is happy with it, stay with mobil1. The only reason I used it was the only 5w40 that was avaliable in the local NAPA.

Im running it right now, got a 5qt jug wat wallrworld for $19.50. All I run is valvoline and with my short driving I decided it would be better than the maxlife I was running and am happy with. Also, it's energy conserving.

Thanks Terry.

I'll just add that valvoline/ashland makes some excellent other products. Their synthetic fuel treatment is the best i've ever used. Their Zerex coolant products also seem to be top of the line.

Group3, hated by lots of BITOGers.

But according to some unreliable, usually inaccurate source, some specific weights of the oil are actually G4, specifically 5w40 which "can't be achieved with group3 oils". I personally don't know if this is true myself, and would love it if anybody can provide me with a definet answer.

if 5w40 can be achieved with group III oils then what explains rotella 5w40 and syntec 5w40? 5w40 cant be achieved with conventional oils is a more realistic statement.

Synpower 5w40 looks like a great oil on paper SM/SL, ACEA A3/B3/B4, NOT ILSAC GF-4 (ZDDP?), MB 229.3, VW 502.00 505.00, BMW LL 01.

Granted thats from March of Last year...I wonder if the formulation has changed any?

You are welcome.

From our testing coverage I am less impressed with the MAXLIFE brand lubes as I can use Auto-RX to enable conventional lube to a better job. More effective and lower cost. I judge Maxlife as marketing more than significant chemistry change for the dollar paid.

The "syn" formulas of their oils are excellent as are the racing VR1.

Yes you sure can make a good 5w40 with GrpIII primarily as the base oil mix.

Ask bruce381 or molakule the resident outgoing formulators here.

Scent of a lube chemistry is a poor guide VOA as odorants are used as well as dye to market or mask the formula.

Now "Scent of a Woman" thats a different story!
