I did my first oil change on my way my F250 PSD with a Valvomax installed. I got a oil change drain bucket. Pulled the truck up on ramps to give it enough clearance for the oil change drain bucket to fit under.

So draining the oil was absolutely no mess. I did hold the drain hose for awhile until I was sure if would not curl and somehow miss the bucket.

I did a newbie mistake of not making sure I had enough oil before I drained it. I thought I had ordered the oil from Amazon but seems I only subscribed and had not gotten any oil delivered yet.

I still used the oil drain pan for the filter as I felt if I dropped the filter into the oil change drain bucket it would make a big mess. And I would have to fish it out

Filled the new filter with oil, started it and then took my hand off so I could twist it so more and the filter must not have been fully caught and it fell on the drive and spilled oil. A tiny debt. Refilled with oil and screwed it on without issue.

The only oil I could find was 2 1/2 jugs at Home Depot. I bought 2. I only wanted To tell T6 5W40. They do not have the translucent view bar to see how much oil is left in the container. And they are heavy.

I installed one of these during my first oil change on my Subaru and after using it I don't think I'll ever be using anything else again. My current engine takes five quarts of oil so all I do is drain what's in the sump directly into an empty five quart jug and then dump the contents of a new 5 quart jug in the engine. I can't conceive of how someone can make draining the oil any easier.

From an mess perspective I wish my I only had to deal with 5 QTs. From an engine perspective I am glad it's 14 QTs.
