First thing it says in the first line of the link you provided is that the oil is that it is a conventional oil.

Oops. Sorry, it's been a busy day at work.

It's pretty cool, though, seeing a 15w40 oil that is formulated primarily for gasoline engines.

I ran Valvoline Turbo V 10w30 in my 1985 Pontiac Sunbird turbo for 2-3 years. I had no complaints with it. Then I switched to M1 once my pay increased enough.

A lot of people in Europe seem to love the thick stuff. The higher the grade, the better. Manufacturers just play to it.

For most engines, I agree with you about thick motor oils. For the first 80,000 miles with my car, it was on a steady diet of 0w30 and 5w30. When you've been dealing with oil consumption in a turbocharged motor, it changes the way you look at oil.

My main dislike with these conventional oils is their very low VIs.
If you need a 40wt oil and do a lot of long distance high speed driving then okay, but anything other than that it's a real (oil) drag. I know, I put up with this heavy cr*p when I was young and we didn't a cost effective choice.

Now if these conventional oils are priced really cheap I can understand the temptation to use them when synthetic oils in Europe and other parts of the world are so expensive but it still is usually false economy when you factor in the longer OCIs and better fuel economy high VI synthetics offer.
