Curious if VR&P would make for a decent firearms oil considering its ability to prevent carbon build up and wear ?

It can, but any lubricant used outside of the scope of its formulation will not be ideal. Gun oil is dirt cheap relative to how little is needed and how long it lasts.

Is the 'carbon buildup' VRP is designed to breakup at all comparable to gunpowder residue?
Is the wear in these examples, engine vs. firearms parts even remotely comparable?

Exactly...so no motor oil in your holster.
Come to think of it, a motor oil could creep in between slug and brass and louse up the powder.
I doubt that would happened unless you were globing oil on everywhere. A few drop in the necessary spots wouldn’t hurt anything. Still not sure why one would use it though. Gun lube is cheap and readily available.

Another thing that I just thought about is you can get gun products which are colorless, odorless and non-carcinogenic like Breakthrough Clean. It won’t stain clothes, stink up the place, and is likely less harmful with prolonged contact to skin which will happen if you’re carrying/using it. Unless it’s a safe or range queen, it’s going to get on your clothes and skin at some point. Just something else to consider.

Brush, lint free cloth, solvent, oil, and grease all in one kit for $25 at WM. Get something to clean the bore like a Boresnake and what else is needed for basic cleaning and lube?
