Is that product discontinued? I can't find it on their website. If it is any idea why. I heard it worked really well even though expensive. If it was the same as their Premium Blue Restore, the cost would be much higher. That oil was PAO/V blend.

That tells me that we may be seeing other oils come out with these claims. Valvoline is just the first. They have many firsts in their history.Fair.
Valvoline Premium Restore was probably based on the findings/disclosures in this patent, which seemed like they settled on a high ester content base oil as optimum.
My point was this is not that, which has been said.

Afton has recent patents on high temperature deposits.
With each new spec/regulation there seems to be tighter limits on deposit formation, so it is a topic that all the base oil/additive manufacturers and blenders are interested in and therefore novel products emerging.
Valvoline is interested in this topic and may have found a new way to achieve these results with the advance of base oils and additives.
Granted they are not claiming it is as strong as the Blue Restore or other products.
Well this isn't just about prevention, but the cleaning of existing deposits and prevention. The higher end oils using polar base oils mitigate deposit formation better than oils using non-polar base oils. To the degree they can clean/dissolve them is really unknown due to ester type and quantity. HPL appears to be able to clean not only existing sludge but deposits. We just don't know how well. With this product we can see, visually, through what Valvoline has shown that it can restore pistons to near factory levels. That tells me that we may be seeing other oils come out with these claims. In order to fit in with the cool kids here at BITOG I picked up a 5 qt jug of this latest and greatest at Walmart yesterday to change the oil in my son's 2017 Mazda3, since the Quaker State and M1 flavors I usually use were in short supply on the shelves. Can confirm with a couple of the above comments, this oil has a very different scent compared to the QS or M1 I usually use. Its not strong or objectionable, but it is a bit unique. To me it kind of smells like the combination of virgin motor oil and old cardboard. Although I have allergies going on right now, my smell might be a tad messed up.
The only issue this car has, is the last few oil changes I've noticed its using about half a quart, which it never used to do. I'll use this stuff for a few changes and see if the oil usage slows at all. Not really looking for anything else to happen, looking into the oil fill hole there isnt a speck of sludge, carbon, or varnish to be found, even at 130k miles.
The pistons are a lot different and will likely have some amount of carbon buildup. Most oils try and mitigate deposit formation. R&P dissolves them. Can't hurt to try it. It's a good off the shelf option for situations like this assuming it works as advertised and every indication is that it does.I also want to try this oil out in my 2014 Mazda 3. I’ve had it since new and it’s seen a bunch of oil brands over the years but most recently a 4-5 years worth of Havoline PRO-DS. Engine is spotless up top, when i removed the valve cover but also recently noticed some oil usage at 135k miles.maybe it’s normal for a 10 year old engine to finally start using “some” oil.
Good video.I'm sold.
They confirm there's a proprietary ingredient, and seem to claim that they developed it.
Likely No. It would likely fall under petroleum distillates, or if related to an existing additive you couldn't distinguish between them.So would that secret ingredient be something that doesn't show on a standard VOA?
GTL and other base stocks can be used to make more or less equivalent blends. So that is not the difference here.Would it make Valvoline Restore and Protect (based on petroleum distillates) better than Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (based on gas)?
It's interesting that it doesn't have a guaranteed mileage claim like Castrol or m1 but I don't think any valvoline product does
Usually for cleaners, they tell you when to change itand how does that guarantee work when you can get any oil to fail in 3k miles under the worst of conditions
It works because the guarantees have several pages of fine print that only allow the oil to be used up to the mileage rating in very specific circumstances. Some of these guarantees even require you to follow the automaker's severe service schedule to be eligible for the guarantee, which for many vehicles is only 3k miles.and how does that guarantee work when you can get any oil to fail in 3k miles under the worst of conditions
Have you changed it yet... a UOA would be very insightful... I would thinkHere is the virgin report.
THERE’S NO OTHER MOTOR OIL LIKE IT???????
I asked for both TBN & TAN????
I'll call them tomorrow and see if they will come up with it.
