Hmm.

If this oil is as good as they claim, it's not going to come from the generic III base oil. It will likely be a novel additive/ester IMO.

What did stand out to me though is their reference oil was a non-specific GF-6 product. So who knows..........

But the actual testing was a modified IIIH test.

I'm sure there is some sort of ester in there. I mean come on guys, not defending Valvoline, but you know you can't determine the formulation based on product safety sheets. But yes, they should be more technical and explicit as to why this is "Restore and Protect"..

I just ordered pup for my next change. I want to use this stuff now.🫤 this is more expensive so you get what you pay for, right?

Has anyone seen confirmation anywhere that this will replace Extended Protection or is it in addition to Extended Protection?

I would consider running this if the price was right. I did see the article on my android news about it being launched globablly now. Valvoline was making "Restore" product well before the HPL craze. That was to assist in Cummin's issues. How would Valvoline have known about the HPL BITOG craze then? 157 year old oil company...

VAFS entry tier, VEP mid-tier, and then VRP as top tier.

Top tier in the shelf-stock world, in my mind means best of everything, similar to how PUP has the most stars on Pennzoil’s charts when comparing the non-HM oils. There’s nothing in Valvoline’s advertising or docs so far that implies VRP will last as long or longer as VEP, at least that I’ve seen. Maybe there is? It’s hard to justify a $40 MSRP for a 5-10k oil IMO.

Craze implies irrational reasoning as the basis of attraction to an item. Hard to call the enthusiasm for HPL a “craze” when the performance and results support the claims.

HPL/Amsoil SS/M1 EP etc. will keep engines extremely clean even over longer drain intervals. VRP is stated to be for your typical drain intervals. Over a longer OCI I'm sure the cleaning ability is diminished and at that point you lose the benefit of the oil.

VRP to me is a niche product. It would never hold up like HPL/Amsoil SS/M1 EP over longer drain intervals. Wasn't designed to do so. Those oils are built differently and cost more. You generally get what you pay for.

Valvoline's claims are pretty specific though and if they were untrue, they'd be asking in trouble or called out for false advertising.

The Valvoline website sure isn't cheap. 5qt is $39.99 and a single qt is $11.99. That is a bit too much for me. I only run 5,000 mile OCI's so I will be sticking to Valvoline Extended Protection. I can get the 5qt for $24-26 dollars at Walmart and single qt for $7.40.

Their claims are literally that the oil will do something between 0 and 100 percent.

This is empty, pointless marketing that's spun to sound bold and flashy. They can't be called out because they never specified anything.

Ok marketing aside the claim is based on testing per the referenced IIIH Testing: Piston Deposit.
They didn't just pull the claim out of a hat.
They can't be called out, sure, but you should expect some kind of result. Time will tell as more information or real world experience comes to be.
