I give up. What on earth is in this stuff? 🤷‍♂️

Here is the virgin report. Doesn't look too special to me?
Oxidation is low, so not a lot of esters.

I asked for both TBN & TAN????

I'll call them tomorrow and see if they will come up with it.

Of course all marketing. I’ll happily stick with hpl or driven and Pennzoil ultra in the beater car. Very disappointing in this report. The old restore and protect from what I recall had an oxidation value of over 40. Could be wrong. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a report on it.

Oh yeah the discontinued VPB Restore was over 40:) 110 to be exact.
I still have 2+ gals and mix a qt or two in when I do an oil change on a few of my daily drivers.

There are no engine tests other than the sludge test that show how well an oil can clean, especially the carbon around rings. There are tests that test for deposit prevention etc. So to some degree all of this relies on a bit of faith. Valvoline used a modified IIIH test to validate what they're claiming, but what does a modified IIIH look like?

Also, consider they've been in this game before with PBR, which was a more costly PAO/V blend that did the same thing in one oil change. Based on the price, I'm going to guess they're using a new additive and not a polar base oil to achieve the results they are claiming.

Yes something not showing up in a $35 give or take VOA.

I wish they kept it that way. I greatly appreciate you doing this. Was hoping it would be an improved version of the old V PB restore.

They figure most middle class Americans can only afford used cars with 100k on the odometer, so let's market restore and protect....
Bingo.

Let this be a lesson that marketing is just that. Marketing teams select product names like this to entice and stir an emotional response. This oil may as well be called "Valvoline Synthetic Formulation #078" or something like that, but that doesn't drive a 22 page hype train, does it?

IDK, does it do what the blender claims it does? As far as I have seen in this thread at least there is no indication either way.

It's too early to know if it works or not. Right now it is only "Marketing", but if their claims fail to provide the results they do.. They can be in trouble with making false claims with the FTC.. Don't worry this is where the lawyers and the FTC get rich in a settlement but the consumer gets a big "sorry about that" excuse.

We have to wait and see.. I know.. what an idea!!

Exactly. People like to throw the words "marketing" around all the time. Every product produced uses marketing to sell their product. The question is does the product do what it claims to do? All you're given is wording that this is the only oil on the market that can clean piston deposit carbon based on a modified IIIH test. At least they used a legitimate engine test.

Exactly.. it's all we have right now.. If the promises of what this oil can do turns out to be true.. Then that would be awesome and I'm all for it!
