Local Walmart started to trickle the GF-7A jugs. No quart bottles yet.

Yes this will be very interesting. We know in real world use that it removes deposits and seems to keep them from forming. I wonder if there's a continuous cycle of it laying down deposits and then cleaning them with the active ingredient, so the net result is it runs clean, but the tests will be interesting.

I hope he runs a regular Euro oil too like M1 FS 0W-40 or M1 ESP 0W-30.
It's probably something along those lines. The test they ran was a "Modified" Seq IIIH. So modified could mean it was set at a different temperature.

I have held back on how VRP compares on certain tests such as oxidation, TEOST etc. Impossible to know at this point.

The huge gain with VRP is its incredibly unique ability to clean existing ring deposits, even from a locked stage, which is a game changer for sure. Beyond that it's a GF-7/SQ oil. Very good wear protection too I should add.
 
I have to double check my new jugs but I think they are all labeled GF-6A and API SP. My new bay box is GF-7A and API SQ. Also has a date on it. June 2006. I forget exact date.
Must mean June 2026. The Valvoline bottles that have pretty new date codes that are labeled GF-6A/SP most likely meet GF-7A/SQ.

I emailed Valvoline about this on the Valvoline Extended Performance I bought back in May and this was their response.

Debating wheather to stick with extended protection high mileage 5w30 or switch to VRP 5W30 ....... next change on my 1500 hemi
Well one cleans rings, keeps them free from deposits, and consistently returns outstanding UOAs. The other appears to be a mediocre group III oil that has been known to stick rings on a meticulously maintained Subaru. Easy choice to me!

Mediocre Group III? Are you referring to Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance High Mileage?
 
I was referring to Valvoline EP but it looks like I read it too fast. M1 EP HM seems like it’s pretty good.

Comments on ring cleaning still apply though.
Well, I’m going to say it again - the last vehicle that I owned - that burned oil (and much from valve stem seals) - was a 17 year old Dodge PowerWagon driven like Dukes of Hazard …
I tried them all - but as DN3 implied - in the absence of visible problems - what’s this crusade worth?
A pile of cut up filters for me ? $$$

That’s a lot of GTL. Not sure I’ve seen any oil that high. Are you sure it’s 80-90% GTL?

This sds leaves a lot to the imagination…

Yeah if what you’re doing is working for you in an engine not known to have problems, carry on I suppose. You always have the VRP escape hatch if problems arise. I think an issue with newer engines is we may not know they are problematic until later, but if you keep an eye on things like any self respecting BITOGer is doing I’m sure, you can probably intervene before it gets out of hand and cylinders get scored. My bias is always toward prevention though, but that’s me.

Thanks. Yeah that’s the CAS for GTL for sure, but I haven’t seen that on the VRP SDS. I wasn’t aware of any GTL in VRP. I feel like Valvoline uses more middle of the road base oils and puts more into their additive package in general.
