Valvoline Restore and Protect

Valvoline Restore & Protect wasn't tested for 500K miles. It was Valvoline full synthetic and Valvoline conventional that was, with 10K OCIs. Then they ran Restore and Protect in them to see how it cleaned the deposits achieved over the 500K miles with the other oils.
Yes! It might be time for another test with a new engine. Then run the Valvoline Restore and Protect for 500K miles like they did with their other products, and do another tear down.

Hey Valvoline, how about it!!

Valvoline Restore and Protect wasn't tested for 500K miles. It was Valvoline full synthetic and Valvoline conventional that was, with 10K OCIs. Then they ran Restore and Protect in them for a relatively short duration to see how it cleaned the deposits achieved over the 500K miles with the other oils.

It would be interesting however to see the guts of an engine ran for 500K miles on Restore & Protect.
DOH! I knew that. 😒

That's what I get for hanging out on BITOG while also trying to do my day job. I need to focus less on my day job!

I don't recall from their videos, but did they mention how long it took them to accrue 500K on test engines?
The Valvoline video that tore down the two engines ran for 500K miles said it took "a handful of years". They did a used oil analysis every 1000 miles also. They ran the vehicles on chassis dynos side by side with some kind of "driving profile" to try and simulate real world use.

Yesterday I was thinking about the gas prices and that oil prices may be affected any time soon and decided to stop by Walmart for another jug of Valvoline Restore and Protect since I would like to do 4 consecutive OCI.
There was only one 5W-30 jug at the bottom of the top shelf. I took it and then saw about 4-5 more jugs at the very top shelf where only employees have access through a ladder. Then I climbed on the first and second shelf and reached out for those 4-5 jugs at the top. I took them down and put them diligently on the lower shelf where was their price tag. If somebody saw me on any camera would say - "That guy is crazy for sure."

Approaching the end of my first OCI with Valvoline Restore and Protect, currently at 8k kms (5k miles). I didn't think it consumed much oil but I've never paid much attention as it's always within the marks on the dipstick. I'll post a thread after the change at 10k km.

There's definitely some build up in there.

I would change it now at 8K km but if you want to wait 2K more km I would definitely add 300-500 ml.

Between the dots is fine by me. I like to change at 10k (nice round number) and not topping up will help me track consumption.

I'm planning on getting analysis on the next OCI and take it from there.
Fine, but after you drive 2,000 more km that oil level will drop below min. and that's quite no good - engine lubrication would be compromised.

Hi, I'm really new to this site. After reading for a while I’ve decided to try Valvoline Restore and Protect on my 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 LM7. It has 145k miles, I’m the original owner and have used a myriad of oils over the years. My previous OCI intervals have always been between 3-4k. I don’t drive her much anymore, 2-3k miles a year. I think she may have started burning oil this last oil change which was quacker state full synthetic. For the past several years besides this last oil change I’ve been using Mobil 1.

Valvoline should use the footage for their next RP commercial.

"THIS IS HOW MUCH CUSTOMERS LOVE OUR RESTORE AND PROTECT!"

I think you'll be very happy with the results.

Walmart sells Valvoline Restore and Protect cheaper than RockAuto though.
I know, but it's another source for that oil. And the quart bottle is cheaper than Walmart (before taxes and shipping).
If somebody needs to top off and there is no Walmart around them, they can order it from Rock Auto.
