I’ve ran Mobil 1 0w40. Truckee CA(Lake Tahoe ) -10. Acura J35. No issues. That’s the coldest Truckee really sees. Typical winter nights is down in the teens.

It’s more about topping off with what decent synthetic oil I have on hand . Walmart is a good drive away for a qrt. of Valvoline Restore and Protect unless combining with other items . I get your suggestion though .

Thanks for sharing cleaning progression evidence of this oil. Its been a long time since last dropping by this thread for a read.
Still hoping someone does a before and after valve cover photo. Seeing this already ensures confidence that in 4 oil changes or 20,000 miles would see a dramatic difference of internal engine cleanliness.
Shared that video with all my car guys folks, even to some who are currently running this oil in their older cars.
But I want 0W/5W-40 !!!Why bother with a 10W-30 when you already have a 5W-30.

Here's the first Valvoline Restore and Protect experience I can share.
This is entirely unscientific and unsupportable.
I read about Valvoline Restore and Protect here and wanted to see if I'd catch any sludge.
Maintenance records lead me to believe my engine was well cared for, so there's also an entertainment factor I won't deny.
4,280 miles were on my 1st round of Valvoline Restore and Protect. The used element filter was clean as could be.
However, the new Valvoline Restore and Protect made the engine run much more quietly.
I understand the effect might be psychosomatic but I'm not given to such frailty. All but one of my grandparents were Vulcans.
I intend to do the 4 changes.
The reports here of Valvoline Restore and Protect possibly having a shorter duty cycle AND the quietness I believe I heard, will have me doing my subsequent Valvoline Restore and Protect changes at 3,000 to 3,500 miles.

Well of course Valvoline Restore and Protect is not going to cause any sludge or debris to get caught in the filter because you need boutique oil to do that.
But being realistic on a properly maintained engine that has been running full synthetic oil's at decent intervals there is not going to really be any major cleaning/restoring that is needed.
It is likely whatever minor sludge/deposits your engine did have and Valvoline Restore and Protect did clean it simply dissolved into the oil. Keep at it but sounds to me like you are in the "protect" stage of the oil to begin with.
I see no reason why you cannot stick with a regular 5k interval, what vehicle/engine is it?.

Does this engine burn any oil? If so, use that as a metric to assess if Valvoline Restore and Protect is doing it's job. Some here with relatively clean engines that burned some oil reported that oil consumption decreased after using Valvoline Restore and Protect.

I was being sarcastic because of the boutique oil fanboys on here who always talk down on Valvoline Restore and Protect.
Why would you go to 3,000-3,500 miles then on next oil change and not keep the 4,000-5,000 miles interval?
Did your engine became noysier after 3,000 miles?

Essentially, yes.
It sounded a lot quieter when I changed it at 4,280.
Shortening the OCI = fewer noisy miles. Totally unscientific.
Plus, I want to get through my Valvoline Restore and Protect mini-stash.
We have a couple/few more people noticing that same thing. So, even unscientific it looks like easily noticeable trend of this oil.
It doesn't stop me from trying it though.
Sounds like Valvoline Restore and Protect has a built in OCI reminder - when the engine gets noisy it’s time to change the oil (lol !) … A good test will be my unrefined 2.4L Theta II engine with about 1,900 miles on the current Valvoline Restore and Protect fill and it’s still quiet . I’ll see how it sounds closer to 4,000 miles .

I ran the Valvoline Restore and Protect to 5500 miles on our 2018 Audi Q7 3.0 supercharged engine on the last run before changing and didnt notice it got any noisier or less smooth. It was still running so smooth, I'd have to look at the tach to see if the engine was running or not or if I had even started it before taking off. The engine literally has no vibration or noises to tell me its running. Quite the contrast to when we bought it when it was gobbling a quart of oil in 400 miles, was down on power & fuel mileage with the dealer supplied Castrol Euro 5w-40 in the crankcase. With the Valvoline Restore and Protect it's done better and better with every change after the initial Berrymans B12 piston soak and BG EPR single flush. I'm still planning to run Valvoline Restore and Protect forever in this Euro SUV at 5-6000 mile intervals along with all of our vehicles.
Amazing stuff.
