Valvoline Restore and Protect

I have a new candidate for the power of Valvoline Restore and Protect! My new to me/16 yo son's 2010 Audi A3. Runs like a top but these are known oil chuggers. I'm seeing ~1qt/1K miles right now...ouch. We will swap out for Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 soon and see how it helps. Really wish they made a Euro-style 40 grade but a 30 here will be fine for a bee-boppin' around town teenager car.

Which engine is in this?

@TiGeo what was Focus the oil consumption prior to using Valvoline Restore and Protect?
It's a little harder to pinpoint b/c I don't daily it anymore but still, I check in on this car regularly and know it well as it was mine for the first 5 years/100K where it had zero consumption. Seemed to start around 135K where I noted it down ~1/3 qt over ~1.5K which never had happened before...I just never ever added oil on this one between changes so it stuck out.

have you tried any flush with your favourite LM products before Valvoline Restore and Protect?

Valvoline reduced zinc and phosphorous in Restore & Protect? Please confirm by comparing older PSDs.

Valvoline Restore and Protect
zinc 720 ppm
phosphorous 650 ppm
Wasn't the first one in the 800s and the second in 700s before?

When I go to Walmart one of the things is to check out is how stocked are the Mobil and Valvoline oil, and other oils too. So, what I saw today was Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 out of stock (the other two viscosity were available) and only one jug of Mobil 1 Extended Protection 0W-20.
That would be typical of my Walmarts too… The good news is the buying of these popular oils ensures the restocking algorithm WM uses for buying and restocking these oils is kept at a high focus.

I believe we will begin to see more tear down evidence videos and pictures that Valvoline Restore and Protect cleans varnish and removes hard carbon from pistons and rings . The other oils touting how good they are at removing soft sludge will continue to remain on the JV team .

Not to argue, but if it does what it is supposed to do there may not be many teardowns.

I think he meant simple before/after pics and videos of let's say valve trains and such.

Unless you own a shop, there is no way and sense anybody could do that. People don't have money to rebuild their own engines, nevertheless to test the Valvoline Restore and Protect in their own or another engine for sole purpose to put it apart after that for pics and videos.
Well, you have to put it apart before hand too to shoot the before pics which makes the labor and time x2.

As you probably know, Valvoline put their two test engines back together (after the two 24 hour Restore & Protect run tear downs) for some more runs on Restore & Protect. Should be interesting.

O.K. Great! Let's see.
But I was talking about average Joe who wants to test the Valvoline Restore and Protect on his own, not a multi million $$$ corp. which tests its own product in its own lab.

Even people who own shops won't do it.
The thing is that once you put apart high mileage engine (or any engine) for the sole purpose of before pics. Even if you didn't replace any parts you have to assamble it with brand new gaskets which adds money to the test/experiment, on top of the time to put the engine apart and then put it together.

Then you have to do the same after 4 OCI with Valvoline Restore and Protect to take after pics. Two engine dissections and brand new gaskets just to see how Valvoline Restore and Protect works. An experience auto tech may do it for a day or less probably.

Yeah, I know ... that's why I mentioned Valvoline saying they are going to run some more Restore & Protect and tear down again, because they have the facilities, people and lots of money to do it so average Joe can see the results.

Hello, my name is Matt and first time posting. I’ve been a looker for a while and enjoy the content on this site. I’m a car guy, I have a several cars and maintain them as well as my kids. After reading this thread for a while I decided I have a few cars that are Valvoline Restore and Protect candidates. First is a new to my oldest daughter, a 2018 Honda CRV 1.5 engine with 100k, unknown maintenance history but I believe mostly highway driving in New Mexico. When she got it and I checked the oil and there was a lot of varnish on the dipstick. I changed the oil with Valvoline Restore and Protect so I’m curious how it will do. She doesn’t drive much loves about 3 miles one way to work so it will get 2-3k miles a year I bet. I’ll monitor it and report back. My second candidate will be in a second post probably at the end of the week.
