Up front, I am a big fan of Valvoline RP oil in my 221,000 Mi 2010 Acura TL-SH AWD.
It hasn't slowed oil consumption necessarily however it sure has cleaned everything else up when looking through the oil filler hole into the top of the engine. I believe my issue is good old poor ring sealing due to miles, as was historic with the 3.7 J series engine.
This quoted post raises some questions on my part and probably on a lot of other folks part as well.
Below is the official PDS from Valvoline for RP 10w40 MC oil.
Shows 920 zinc, 815 phosphorus.
The Valvoline 10w40 oil in this comparison chart is not the 10w40 RP oil Valvoline is adevertising/selling. With respect, I don't see how it is a Valvoline motorcycle oil at all, the numbers are so far off!
What is the date and source of the RP data to provide some clarity. The disclaimer at the bottom says it may not be from current samples however this oil only came out in the last handful of months. There is no previous other data that could be entered in, as has been in many cases, because there is no past data on this new oil.
No manufacturer lists down to the single digit on zinc/phosphorus or other additives. This data would only come from analysis due to the nature of the numbers posted.
Valvoline MC 10w30 syn, 10w40syn and 20w50 syn are advertised 920 ppm zinc and 830 ppm phosphorus.
Valvoline 10w40/20w50 conventional are 1120 ppm zinc and 1030 ppm phosphorous.
Did the information in this chart come from a VOA of the RP 10w40 oil, as it is specifically called out as 10w40 RP MC oil in the above post.
