I have a 2020 Ford Edge SEL. It is saying it needs 5.7qts.

The local dealers have 5 quart containers only. I have been running Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 since I bought it in early '23.

Rather than buy a whole 5 quarts for 0.7 could I use a single quart of the PP? The oil is gonna be mixing with some PP anyway as you can never get 100% out of the engine and until the second or third fill with a new and same oil it isn't purely that oil.

Y'all think using 0.7qt of Pennzoil ekuld

All of the stores near here only have 5 quart containers of Valvoline R&P

My 2020 Edge calls for 5.7 quarts "full" with filter. Obviously it's gonna be an it less as some oil clings inside.

I'm not wanting to buy 5 quarts and have it sit and age ~ 6 months of I can avoid it. Given that some Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 is going to be inside the engine and mix with the Valvoline anyway, would using an extra half quart I have sitting around to top off the Valvoline be a horrid thing? Would it ruin the chemistry or it's not even gonna matter? I'll buy the 5 quarts if there is some major reaction with GTL oils and the Valvoline or something.

Looking for feedback and information. Thanks.

I have been running restore and protect in my old dodge Dakota with leftover PP they seem to play together fine.
The way the oil pan and drain plug is I bet there's alway around a half quart leftover from the last oil change.

When I had an oil gulping 2017 Soul, I usually got the $25 Walmart base oil change, generally QS semi syn. I usually refilled with one of the WPP/Pritzker syns either ST or Costco or one of the farm store Warren oil group 3's, what ever was on sale. Frankenbrew worked fine. Nothing to worry about with a bit of PP.

So, both my Mazdas take like 5.2 quarts to get to full line (with a new filter.) My son's Santa Fe takes 5.3 quarts. My other sons Kia Rio take 3.5 (But goes through oil like crazy.) I hvae a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 that is used as that little bit extra in each car to top it off. Regardless of what oil I used. No worries.

When the Mobil 1 jug is gone, I'll buy Supertech Full Synthetic HM. That will be the top off going forward. Cheap and easy to get. Won't harm anything.

If it was me I would just buy a 5qt jug and a quart bottle, fill to 5.5 and keep the leftover handy for the next oil change.

Assuming this is a legitimate question.

They don't have quarts of it in stock. I just used Pennzoil Platinum for the 0.7qt or so.

I ordered 3x5qts so going forward I have enough for 2 more changes before I need to get another 5qts.

I just wanted to be sure that GTL oils didn't have some bad reaction with other synthetics. I was pretty sure they didn't and would have mixed them but figured why not check just in case.

IMO mixing different formulations is not a good thing. This is highly argued here, and I dont have any real expertise in chemistry of lubricants. Do they have quarts of some other valvoline product?

They did but I had the PP. Car has been hesitating and I'm running Techron/regane through it. I'll probably put 1000 miles on it in the 2 weeks I'm here on vacation.

I'll change the oil with pure Valvoline R&P before I go back to work.

I'll be changing it so soon as I've seen some cut open filters full of carbon and want to avoid that if possible (I work away from home 2-5 weeks at a time)
