Results on my 7,000 mile OCI. I was pleasantly surprised at the very low wear rate. Repeated same process I did for 5,000 mile OCI. Drained and added 1 quart of R&P at the 4,000 mile mark. Only physical driving change between the two samples is the 7,000 mile run was more of a 75% highway miles vs the 5k run was more around a 50/50 of highway and around town driving. Presuming that’s what helped improve the rates vs the 5k run. All else… everything was the same. Used a new Purolator Boss PBL 14610 oil filter. Same Wix Air filter (same filter on both runs). I did change the Wix air filter on my current upcoming 8k OCI run that I’m on now. Will finish this OCI and get tested again, then switch to Amsoil HM and repeat same 5k, 7k, and 8k runs with testing.

Bravo on the mileage accomplishment.

Any major engine work?
Recently… no. Historically, yes. 220,000 miles replaced Timing chain, tensioners, and timing actuator. The dreaded start up rattle common on this Honda engine. Power steering pump replacement… and that’s it. Starter may be up next in the next 25,000 miles. Does have occasional issue of starting even on a new battery. Other than that… it’s been a very reliable low cost of ownership vehicle.

Man, that's not even the major stuff I was thinking. My mind was full rebuild.

5w20 for the whole life?

Wow… sorry to hear that Racer. Maybe my Honda was built on a good day at the plant. lol.
For the most part yes, 5w-20. I’ve ran 0w-30 Amsoil in it before. And I typically run 4 quarts of 5w-20 and 1 quart of 5w-30 HM to see if I can keep oil burn to a minimum. I have ran a full 5w-30 in it back many many miles ago but MPG dropped 2-3 mpg so I switched back to 5w-20.
Oil burn on this oci was 1/2 quart over 5k. Probably best I’m gonna get. R&P has reduced it from 2 qt burn down to 1/2 qt

Assuming you're the original owner, or have the history from the prior owner/owners, what oil got it to 352K miles?

Edit: Looks like you answered while I was putting together my question.

Sorry, I'm good. You just don't see too many cars cross 300k in general, let alone without major work.

1/2qt per 5000 is good and on a well loved engine, it's excellant, IMO

Yes. I’m original owner. Definitely gonna stretch my memory. I remember initial break on OCI’s were done with valvoline conventional Dino juice. Ran Valvoline syntech for the first time<100,000 miles. Then switched to Mobil 1 and Mobil1 EP. Then Amsoil after the timing chain replacement with a few Pennzoil UP. Wasn’t a huge fan-boy of the PUP. Then came back to Amsoil for a while until I switched to Valvoline Ext Protection. The last 12k miles have been on Valvoline R&P

Thanks, impressive results.

7,000 mile interval and such low wear metals is impressive at 350,000 miles.

I would stick with the R&P especially since your consumption dropped.

Original ownership along w/Honda reliability is showing up on your UOA. That is extremely low contamination in the oil. Great job on keeping this on the road. Good to hear about R&P & real experiences not just a free product "review". Any pics of this 350k beast you can share?

Great report. I find it interesting that there was more fuel dilution with the longer oci of highway miles. Has your MPG gone down with engine age? Thanks for the post.

I noticed that too. Probably the only small blemish on the whole report. And I always run the car for 20 miles or more and then pull it straight into the garage and on the ramps to change the oil. It has historically been a good performer as it relates to fuel dilution. I’ll see how it pans out on the next sample at 8k miles. I hope I’m not jinxing myself with the great reports and now getting the car into some type of maintenance issue. It’s been the most reliable vehicle I’ve had in my life. 45 years of car ownership.
