Car is used mainly to go to work, about 8 miles, then groceries etc. Cut open STP filter, lots of black tar, horrible. Got a leak for sure. If not for that the oil might go further, but the way its driven I don't know. Refilled with NAPA syn 5w30 and 7 oz. of VSOT, will change at 3k.

Juan,
It is too bad about the coolant leak as I was real excited to get a UOA posted with this oil.. Get that fixed ASAP..

The oil seems to have held up well even with that servvice and the coolant contamination. Without the leak I think you could expect better numbers and to go further.

I can't believe there is actually an Aztek UOA here (not many sell around here), what is the failure rate of 3.1/3.4 GM intake leaks anyways? It seems like it's pretty darn high.

Thanks for posting... the first I remember where there IS actually antifreeze contamination, and a real example of what levels of potassium and sodium you see.

It's got to be well over 90%. On the Grand Am GT message board pretty much everyone has had it and most people have it mulitple times.

Took the car to my favorite garage.

They pressure tested it and confirmed that the manifold gasket is leaking inside and outside.

They are repairing it now, and we'll get it back Monday. About $500. ouch.

The cool thing is, I showed my wife the filter, her eyes popped, I showed her the report, her jaw dropped. She ok'd the repairs and will pay for them (it's her car), she's bummed, but she went for it. She trusted my judgement. That's a silver lining.

BTW, get that problem fixed ASAP.

Another GM intake gasket leak........so much for the great GM feeling. If you bought this new, your dealer/GM will pay part of the repair. I had my intake gaskets in my S-10 paid 100% 1 year out of warranty.

They told my family to take a hike on 3 different vehicles. We are, straight for another brand. And people out there in the media are still asking "GM's a good company, why are they going belly up?"

GM Quality? Is that like "American culture" or
"American education" ?

Maybe it is like "affordable housing" or "Free Credit"? Maybe GM quality works like Microsoft works?
