Has anyone heard about new Valvoline MaxLife oil filters? I noticed them on sale at Advance Auto Parts:

That's actually funny - "removes 50% more sludge".

I guess it would fill up fast in a Toyota Avalon which is why it needs to be "high capacity".

How much are they on sale for? I have never seen them but besides the marketing lables. What makes them diiffent? Probably nothing so if they are 3 buck filters I would use them.

Any bets it's a plain Purolator ("engineered by Purolator")?

I think Advance Auto has them on sale this week for $4.94....at that price they'd better be Pure Ones instead of base Purolators. I can get Pure Ones at Meijer for $4.99, regular price, right now.

Yeah, thanks for the pic & I agree with T-Keith about it being a good look'n filter.

Ashland does a good job of promoting the Valvoline product line with graphics & packaging on everything from the motor oils & greases to these new filters.

LOL, don't quite know how to take the "Removes 50% More Sludge" as we would assume, a properly formulated oil, in a regularly maintained vehicle, will not produce sludge.

if you wait long enough, the maxlife oil filters will be free after rebate. come on valvoline were waiting.

Not to wait. I was just in Advance Auto and IIRC you get a refund on the Maxlife filter by buying 5 quarts of their high mileage oil.

BTW, I inspected the basic Ford filter in the Maxlife (I think it was VF8A). I like it better than the Purolator Premium Plus because the Maxlife filter had the nice threaded end bypass valve like a Motorcraft FL1A.

The pretty picture on the can is just a sticker though (at least on the one I looked at).

We have them here in Canada, bought mine at Canadian Tire. Sells for $7.99. Pricey, if you asked me. I'm nervous about reading that it could be more restrictive. That's probably why it collects more crap than the others, so Valvoline says. Is it all hype, or is it a good filter?

I doubt it would be any more restrictive than a Purolator Pure One, but who knows. Call Valvoline and ask them for the flow rate. 1 800 TEAM VAL. I think I would buy one at the right price (say, $3).

I cut open a new maxlife and pureone for nissan applicatons and other than the silicone antidrainback valve the pureone had, they looked identical.
