Valvoline® motor oil and other Valvoline-brand premium products have been chosen as the exclusive line for three important product categories at the nearly 700 company-owned Goodyear Auto Service Centers and Just Tires stores across the country. Valvoline, a product family of Ashland Consumer Markets, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc. is the nation’s original branded motor oil.

In February, Goodyear will begin offering Valvoline motor oils, transmission fluids, brake fluids, hydraulic fluids, grease and 3-part fuel system cleaner. In addition, Zerex® antifreeze, a product already available, continues as part of the Valvoline lineup.

“This partnership reflects that installers and customers have strong confidence in our quality products and also represents the continuing growth of the Valvoline brand in serving North America's "do-it-for-me" or DIFM business,” said Samuel J. Mitchell, president, Ashland Consumer Markets. “Providing premium solutions to auto service dealers and other installers and their customers is a key to our DIFM business strategy.”

“We are pleased to both continue and expand our successful relationship with an iconic American brand like Valvoline,” said Jerry Alessia, Goodyear Retail’s director of store support. “This is clearly a valuable complement to our high quality customer service experience.”

Ashland Consumer Markets, which includes the Valvoline family of products and services, is a leading innovator, marketer and supplier of high-performing automotive lubricants, chemicals and appearance products. Valvoline, the world’s first lubricating oil, is the number three passenger car motor oil brand and represents the number two quick-lube chain in the United States.

Separately, Valvoline's parent, Ashland, announced last week that Valvoline's sales and operating revenue was $388 million, up 2 percent over the December 2007 quarter, due to increased average selling prices. Lubricant volume declined 17 percent. This reduction was primarily driven by the Do-It-For-Me market's installer channel. Valvoline Instant Oil Change continued to post strong results as company-owned stores increased car counts, driving same-store sales up 9 percent, and the number of franchise units increased by 7 percent. Overall gross margins declined in the quarter, although they did start to recover in the month of December as base oil cost decreases began to positively impact results. Selling, general and administrative expenses declined 10 percent, primarily a result of both lower overhead and advertising expenses.

First Sears, now Goodyear is also using Valvoline products exclusively. Ashland is on a roll lately, is their brand image really that good?

You don't know that Valvoline is the number one choice of ASE certified mechanics?

i was when i worked there, still am actually.

When I worked at Sears, instead of ASE Certified the third letter was another S, and the word "Certified" came before the acronym. I would say 90% of the people there had this qualification.

Off topic but, one of the funniest bits I've heard is Blue Collar Comedy tour's Ron White talking about getting tires installed at Sears for his van. Long story short, wheel fell off a few miles down the road.

The part about the Sears tire tech is hilarious. Ron White's one of my favs anyway.

No, their bid was that low. Nine times out of ten, low bid wins as long as they can service/supply most or all of the retail outlets.

In this economy, trust me, low bid won.
